I agree. I just think it’ll take more time for him to be ready to contribute that the 4-5 starts he talked about when he was signed. He’s older, coming off injury, and a longer time of not playing competitive baseball than he is used to…not surprising that he under-estimated how long it would take for him to be ready. Right now, the hitters are WAY ahead of him, he’s about in the shape you would expect when hitters report to ST…he’s got work to do before he can really help the Rangers.

Even if he is just “working on his stuff” and “building arm strength”….shouldn’t he be able to accidentally fool AA hitters? I’m sure the Rangers would feel better about it if he got some guys out while getting up to speed.

If he really wanted to pitch this year it probably would have made sense to go ahead and sign before ST. I could be wrong, but 85 pitches in four innings does not sound like a tune up.

I’m constantly reading conflicting reports about whether he’s “struggling” or just “building up arm strength” and not focusing on results. I guess his return to the majors is imminent either way and we’ll see.
