Josh Hamilton hospitalized with intestinal virus

Jun 15, 2012, 5:00 PM EDT

Texas Rangers batter Josh Hamilton runs to the dugout after hitting his fourth two-run home run in the eight inning against the Baltimore Orioles in Baltimore

Bad news for the Rangers: Josh Hamilton has been hospitalized with an intestinal virus. He’s going to remain in the hospital for the next 12 to 24 hours while receiving fluids.  He’s not expected to be placed on the disabled list.

Leonys Martin recalled from Round Rock to take Hamilton’s place in the outfield.

Here’s hoping Hamilton doesn’t get sapped too much in the meantime and can make a speedy return.

Takes him a little longer because he can’t take addictive prescriptions

Exactly. That’s what I’m worried about. Hamilton strikes me as the kind of guy who can take a lot of pain (last year’s post-season, anyone?), so maybe it’ll go well enough.

And what kind of addictive prescriptions would help with an intestinal virus?

I was wondering that too, considering that NOTHING you can take can attack a virus.

You might want to add that the Rangers put Koji Uehara on the DL to make roster space for Leonys Martin. They’ll surely make another move soon as that leaves them with only four starters on the roster.

That intestinal virus is going around in DFW, had it this week and it’ll ruin your day real quick.

Addictive prescriptions? What doctor prescribes narcotics for an intestinal virus? Fluids, rest and a lot of puking/diarrhea usually cures anyone in 48-72.

i had an intenstinal bug earlier this year. it wasnt a 12-24 hour stay. it was a 4 day stay and another 6 weeks before my energy was normal. it wasnt something i could poop or puke out, they had to pump my stomach and reset my system. i hope that isnt what he has because i wouldnt wish it on my worst enemy. i hope he gets better soon.

Reset your system? Are you are a computer? PC or Mac?

Pretty sure the Rangers will take every precaution. Josh is the third starter to be felled with this bug. Cruz had a mild case but Holland lost 15 pounds in nine days because of it and is still on DL. Vicious stuff.
