After Antonio Bastardo gave up one run on two hits in an inning of work Wednesday night against the Twins, he decided to take his frustrations out on a squat machine in the weight room at Target Field. Bad idea.

Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that Bastardo walked away with a large gash above his left eye, which was “nearly swollen shut” after last night’s game. Phillies manager Charlie Manuel told Jim Salisbury of this morning that he could have an infection. The southpaw is unlikely to pitch today and could be rested for a couple more days until the swelling goes down.

And no, it is not OK to use Bastardo’s injury as an excuse to avoid the gym this weekend.

Remind me of when i threw my gaming controller across the room and broke my computer screen. While they seem nothing similiar the rage that was induced by MLB 2k11 and his pitching might have a connection. Just maybe…

See? That’s why I don’t exercise. Well, that and the fact that I’m lazy, but the other thing, too

Excuse #99 for not going to the gym today.

What is wrong with this team? A couple years back Madsen broke something in his foot from kicking a chair. Come on guys.

It’s because they’re passionate…or something. But the rash of injuries is just mind boggling.

I understand hurting one’s hand or foot when getting angry and attacking something, but…how did an inanimate object get him in the eye?

Right cross. Squat machines are good counter punchers.
