Josh Beckett is headed to the disabled list with right shoulder soreness

Jun 16, 2012, 4:07 PM EDT

We learned yesterday that Josh Beckett was scratched from his scheduled start Sunday due to right shoulder inflammation. Now he’s DL-bound.

The severity of the issue isn’t yet known, but Beckett will be eligible to rejoin the Red Sox before the end of the month. It’s another tough blow for a team that is having troubling digging their way out of the cellar in the American League East. The Red Sox have lost eight out of their 11 games to fall to 31-33 on the year.

Franklin Morales is scheduled to start in Beckett’s place Sunday against the Cubs. The 26-year-old southpaw has pitched exclusively in relief during his time with the Red Sox and hasn’t started a game in the big leagues since 2009 as a member of the Rockies.

I guess Beckett has more time off than he’s previously stated. As it is, it’s obvious that he doesn’t work between starts, and often times doesn’t work during his starts. The question remains, what does Josh Beckett do to earn his salary?

It seems that pitchers are getting hurt with great regularity this month.

Another day, another injury for the Red Sox. Beckett’s been great over the last month…he’s definitely, what’s the phrase? Earned his salary. No doubt there.

How can he eat chicken and drink beer with only one good arm?

He didn’t eat any chicken. Never did. The chicken was bought by a player for the clubhouse staff. Whoever started the accusation of players eating it was wrong.

Whatever he’s eating, he’s eating lots of it.

13yrmlbvet- I agree. The chicken and beer had no effect on last years humiliating, historic collapse. That can be blamed on their overall failure to execute, physically and their “I couldn’t care less” and “take the money and run” piss poor attitude. It’s what happens when you embrace failure.

I hope that shoulder doesn’t screw up his golf swing.

13yrmlbvet – yea that was a total false claim. after finishing a case of beers beckett was too full for chicken. cant believe those bastards said he was eating chicken
