It’s funny you guys mention this. We just launched RECAPP (www.recapp.me) on the iPhone in April. It organizes the best news from across the internet by the teams and sports people follow. It turns out, most of the best articles are written from guys at NBC Sports, Yahoo! Sports, and Sports Illustrated. ESPN has the country’s mindshare but when you look deeper, there are so many other great sources for news.

ESPN aka the Ministry of Truth and the word respect shouldn’t be in the same sentence. If Steven A. Smith (who “style” of reporting is being obnoxiously loud, annoying and point his finger without making any sense) is considered to be good then there is a serious problem. MSM Sports “journalism” has been become like the regular MSM, they have no interests in real reporting, just cheerleading and trolling. This is another reason why both MSMs are being surpassed by blogs and the like.

ESPN has become insufferable, from a journalistic point of view. I respect Ravy, Kruk, Lark Sut, Schulman, etc. But, they seem to give megaphones to blowhards (see above). MLB Network gets most of my viewing time. Deadspin breaks down how many Sportscenter mentions and minutes that certain topics get. Fascinating. The parent corporation’s financial stake in the NBA Finals should not be so obvious by watching SC- presumably a “news” program. However, the Heat are getting an obscene amount of SC minutes. If NBC had the Finals, would those inflated numbers be consistent? As a baseball junkie, I don’t trust ESPN to give the game a fair shake on a daily basis.

As for 38, he has left quite a wake of destruction with respect to careers, relationships, and the Rhode Island state treasury. I would love to see the details of an audit. How does one burn through so much so quickly? The first game generated tens of millions in revenue, right? “American Greed” producers are building a case file, undoubtedly.

Rob Neyer once coined a great nickname for 38 after his phony letter to baseball fans post 9/11- “The Big Patriot”. This was especially perfect given his domination of baseball with teammate Randy Johnson, “The Big Unit”. The nickname captures the phoniness I always detected when TBP opened his mouth.

TBP’s incompetence has wreaked havoc on a massive scale. However, his failure should be his own- not RI taxpayers’. Nobody forced Lil’ Rhody to co-sign for $75 million in loans so TBP could play corporate honcho with absolutely no experience that would justify such a commitment. At the time, the state thought it was gaining an advantage on Massachusetts. Wow. Deval Patrick must be quite relieved such an enterprise was lured across the Commonwealth’s borders.
