I live in phx and see him play often. He is 25 and makes nothing. He is a gold glove defender who would not be a fourth outfielder had the snakes not oddly signed Kubel. Last year Parra batted .292, that is not as bad as you make it seem. I would take him over Youk any day, due to his age.

That is laughable. I wonder what Boston thought would appeal to the DBacks? Thinking Youkilis is going to be motivated to play for Arizona at this point in his career? Youkilis has some value to a contender that needs a third baseman. Not to a team like the DBacks.

Youkilis is aging faster than a quart of milk from 7-11. It is increasingly unpleasant to gaze upon what passes for his physique. His career demise has been sudden, but predictable, as is the lot of most late bloomers. Boston read too much into Arizona’s strange decision to replace Parra in the starting lineup with an inferior player for vastly more money. Apparently they believed the Snakes were eager to compound that error.

Parra is a below-average hitter with a good glove. He is Arizona’s fourth outfielder. Youkilis has a long track record of being an elite player, despite his struggles this year.

Yes, this would probably be a good deal for the Sox, but it isn’t an outrageous request. In negotiations, you always start by asking high, and it’s not like they asked for Bryce Harper.

I think it’s a little premature to call Youkilis “decrepit”. Most likely he is still a productive player. Nor is his contract that expensive given his track record.

However, I agree that Oakland is not going to give up some of their young pitching for him. Wait a few years until he is really washed up, and then they will sign him.

Sorry but Oakland taking on a bloated contract for a decrepit player isn’t going to happen unless Beane thinks he can flip Youk somewhere else in a deal for some other cheap talent.

However, Drew, I don’t think Boston will be looking for an OF anymore. With Kalish being called up I think they’ll be all set (so long as Ellsbury, Crawford, and Ross can come back and be healthy).

Starting pitching is what the should aim for. They’ve been shaky all year and Beckett just went on the DL.

The Indians maybe; Ubaldo Jimenez has an great upside. They’re both struggling so it’s an equal risk for both. Or, bring Masterson back?

Boston and Oakland have made trades before and we know that: a. They have pitching to give and b. Billy Beane loves both Youkilis and taking a chance on veterans (Boston would have to eat some of the salary).

Lastly, if they really want an OF (which they shouldn’t) then Peter Bourjos is very attractive. If Youk comes back around he is a much better option than Callaspo.

That would have been a fantastic trade for Boston. A steal actually for all the reasons you mentioned – 25 years old, close to league minimum, gold glove, etc).
