He has already been recalled and has been assigned to the bullpen again. That could be subject to change due to Beachey’s injury and Jurrjens’ inability to not suck.

Medlen is being stretched out in the minors. I believe he will be called up soon to take a spot in the rotation.

Kris Medlen can start or relieve and he always maintains a positive team-first attitude. That makes it easy for management to jerk him around. I hope he gets a real chance in an organization that treats him with some respect one of these days.

The pitching issues the braves have are being compounded by mishandling their rotation at the major league level. Case in point is medlen. He is a control type pitcher who does not have overpowering stuff but is successful because he keeps hitters off balance. He does not have raw stuff or velocity normally seen in a reliever. He recently returned from the minors after being stretched out to start. The braves had a few long and middle opportunities arise where he could have been used while he was gone but they realised his highest value was as a starter. So the bring him back after getting him ready to start… And put him back in the pen. What is going on? At the very least a starter is worth more than relievers start him for a bit and if you need relievers so badly trade him for a couple, a solid starter should net two serviceable relievers. The recent injuries to the pitching staff have highlighted the braves biggest issue and it is poor planning and leadership.

If he doesn’t work out, I understand that the Rockies are shopping Guthrie. They were turned down by the Jays.
