Jerome Williams struggled Monday night versus the Giants, failing to make it out of the fourth inning  against his former team, and afterward the veteran right-hander had to be hospitalized for shortness of breath.

For now the Angels are saying the hospitalization was a precautionary measure, but Williams remained there overnight and is expected to undergo further testing to determine the problem.

Torii Hunter told reporters afterward that Williams “passed out in the locker room” and manager Mike Scioscia indicated that the shortness of breath didn’t occur until after he’d left the game.

Williams threw 75 pitches, allowing four runs on seven hits and three walks in 3.1 innings, and Alden Gonzalez of reports that he “started feeling dizzy when returning to the Angels clubhouse.”

Some of my fellow Angels fans noted he was sweating profusely last night.

Was it crazy-hot at game time or something?! Or is this something else altogether?!

He was sweating a lot during the game, and no, Anaheim wasn’t crazy hot- in the 80s yesterday, and maybe 78-80 at game time.

Nothing to see here, just a typical reaction to seeing Pujols first paycheck.

He will have plenty of time to recover in laid-back AAA. When Weaver comes back I would imagine that Williams will get the short straw.

Perhaps he thought the Giants were very handsome, and they took his breath away.

He was upset with so many Giants fans in the Big A . Get well soon!

As a big fan of Jerome Williams when he pitched with us, I hope him a speedy recovery. I know back in ’04 in a giants game against Lou Pinella, Lou complained and had the umpires remove William’s puka shell necklace (made by his deceased mother). I remember reading how this got into Jerome’s head and it really is the only cause I can think of why we traded him for LaTroy Hawkins. Hopefully he was just a little amped up to face his former team and again will pitch well into the future.
