I hear you Pat. I am obviously biased. But based upon what I see (and hear from his teammates, coaches and opposing players)…you can’t put a price on what Yadi brings to the table.
From handling the pitchers, to absolutely shutting the running game down, to his defensive skills…you can’t put a price on it. Further, (for me) TLR sealed the deal earlier this year when he said the ONE person in a Cardinals uniform they could least afford to lose was Yadier Molina.
And he was referring to last year when the Organization knew both he and Pujols were going to be F.A.’s.

Defensively Molina does not have that big of an advantage. Ruiz has been a very good catcher for years but wasn’t hitting. Statistically Ruiz is actually having a better defensive year.

Ruiz has been the better catcher. He’s 3rd in the NL in batting average. 1st among catchers in batting average, RBI, runs, OPS, and WAR.

Thats kind of the point. A lot of the votes being cast are not for the better players. People are deliberetly voting against some of the better players to allow their teams league, be it national or american, to be able to claim home field advantage.

I’m a fan of the Astros but not a homer. I’m pretty realistic about the team and its players. But Altuve at 2nd and Lowrie at short stop are not getting the love they deserve from the voters. I understand the dynamics of the ASG and I probably won’t watch it anyway. But it’s not a good way to judge the best players in the league.

Other than Joey Votto, 1st base in the NL is kind of a mess, so Belt getting so many votes doesn’t really surprise me. And I know a good number of Giants fans who are voting for him in an effort to troll Bochy, if that makes any sense.
