Red Sox activate Cody Ross, put Scott Podsednik on DL

Jun 19, 2012, 3:45 PM EDT

Jose Molina, Cody Ross

As expected Cody Ross is back from the disabled list after missing the past month with a fractured left foot, but that doesn’t mean the Red Sox’s outfield is any healthier.

According to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe they made room for Ross on the roster by placing Scott Podsednik on the DL with a groin injury suffered yesterday.

It’s tough timing for Podsednik, who’d resurrected his career by hitting .387 with six steals in 19 games after not playing in the majors at all last season and failing to make the Phillies out of spring training this year.

I am sure that the Red Sox would rather have the power and RBI’s contributed by Ross than the singles contributed by Podsednik.

Actually, Podsednik has a .387 avg. and a .409 OBP. No RBI for Ross if no one is on base; with Nava hurt and Aviles slumping, Boston has no leadoff man.

Podsednik rules! This guy is one of my new favorites. Seriously. He may rock a single, but can pound a double out of it. He steals those bags, baby, and wants the win.

Not at all discounting what Ross has given the team, not at all.

But, hey, what a great find in Podsednik.

Ross scores runs the easy way. Hit another home run in his first day back.

Sure. They both score runs. I’ll take that.

    Nolan Reimold has a cervix????

Can he play in the Olympics with that?

Ha ha, but you know better. Also, what does that have to do with the epic, tragic (and yet ultimately redeeming) tale of the Red Sox’ seventh and eighth outfielders? I think you may have taken a wrong turn…

I’d imagine the Red Sox players would rather have Podsednik’s wife around the clubhouse over Cody Ross

That photo is all kinds of awesome.
