He’s probably the second best first base prospect in the minors, so that’s something. And I imagine George Springer was under consideration for an outfield spot.

The 2 Jays prospects were originally drafted by the Philadelphia. d”Arnaud came in the Halladay trade and Gose was an indirect byproduct of that trade. Both will be in the majors next year. Next season, the futures game should see some of the young pitchers that Toronto has been stockpiling.

They’re usually aren’t many pure second base prospects. Instead, that’s where some of the shortstop prospects will end up. If not Segura, then the Phillies’ Cesar Hernandez probably should have been the World Team’s second baseman. Scooter and Wong are about as good as any of the U.S. team choices. San Diego’s Cory Spangenberg was an alternative.

Chris Reed was born in Encino, CA. Raised in London, maybe? I can’t imagine how else he would qualify for the World team. And Yordano Ventura is a better prospect than he is anyway.

Oh… and the selection process, as I understand it, is that Baseball America tells MLB who it wants in the game (up to two prospects per major league team) and MLB gets team approval from there.

It’s certainly odd, particularly given the fact that neither of those prospects are so good that you’d like to see them play the entire game. That said, beyond Rizzo (who is probably going to be in the majors by the time the game is played) and Singleton, there aren’t many quality first base prospects in the minors right now.
