As confirmed by the Athletics’ official Twitter feed, right-handed starter Brandon McCarthy was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday afternoon with ongoing discomfort in his throwing shoulder.

McCarthy missed only 15 days earlier this season with a similar shoulder issue, but it seems like he’ll be out much longer than that this time around.

“The last two weeks have been about as mentally harrowing as I have had in my career,” the 28-year-old told CSNBayArea.com’s Casey Pratt late Saturday night. “Dealing with pain every day is miserable.”

McCarthy has registered a 2.54 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 52/19 K/BB ratio across 78 innings this season for third-place Oakland. He had a 3.32 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 123/25 K/BB ratio in 170 2/3 innings last year.

The A’s called up right-hander A.J. Griffin to fill McCarthy’s rotation spot.┬áDanny Farquhar was DFA’d.

Forget the official twitter feed. What did Amanda say on Twitter?

My first thought, too. No comment so far. Brandon was asked if chicks dig the DL. He ducked it in a humorous manner.

The only thing that seems vaguely related is this exchange with Nicole Vogelsong (Ryan’s better half is named Nicole):
“Doing my best today to ‘worry about nothing, pray about everything’. Easier said than done! Have a blessed Sunday…”
AMcC: “I’ll do the worrying you do the praying ;)”
      NV: “Deal! ;)”

The Vogelsongs aren’t a bad looking couple either.

And this is just too much fun not to toss out there:
“Having to drive when I land is really cramping my in flight drinking”
