Jim Thome set a major league record Saturday with his 13th career walkoff homer. Now he’s thinking about coming back for more.

“It showed me that I can still play,” Thome said in an interview with Scott Palmer on the Phillies pregame show, Behind the Pinstripes, Sunday afternoon. “And to be honest, it really questions whether or not this will be my last year, to be dead honest.”

Getting a chance to DH in interleague games, Thome is hitting .317 with five homers and 15 RBI in 41 at-bats this month.

Thome’s homer Saturday against the Rays came after Jonathan Papelbon blew his first save of the season and reportedly earned him a $5,000 check from the Phillies closer. Papelbon said he made the offer to Thome while he was in the on-deck circle before his at-bat.

That was real whipped cream on his face, not shaving cream.

“they’re paying him to do extra stuff! Someone stop him!”

    Sit down, Goodell.

Love to see Thome do well, although fewer RBIs against the Twins would have been nice. I really think he needs to be on an AL team if he returns next year though.

With all of the extra interleague play next year he’s the ideal bench bat/DH. He would go a long way in helping to beat AL teams.

Why retire if you can still hit and the game is fun? Good for him.
