2 of the runs he gave up were unearned. That came after the second base ump made a mistake and missed a tag on Scrappy who had tried to steal second. If the ump had been in the right position, he would have seen the tag and the inning would have ended without those 2 runs being scored.

To ignore the possibility of random variation in injuries occurrence is more that just ignorant; it is also stupid. What the Jays need to do (and likely are already looking into) is to find out if there are identifiable factors (i.e. commonalities) that may have contributed to their “injury outbreak”. To make an assumption without information is to be more lost than to ignore the situation completely.

The Jays think that he may not miss a start. Given the injuries to Hutchinson and Drabek, they were being cautious. MRI in the morning.

Moyer will get an audition. He has to be better than Chavez.

He seemed to hurt his back in the 3rd inning, but stayed in the game. He was pulled in the bottom of the 6th with the elbow problem.

Rickey Romero will have to wear bubble wrap from now on.

Morrow should return after the break. Cecil has been fine since his return to the team. Laffey gets his audition tomorrow. Chad Jenkins might be called up from Double A.

In the meantime, the Jays are scoring a lot of runs. Before the game has halted due to rain in the top of the 7th, the Jays had a 9 to 5 lead over the Red Sox thanks to homers by Rasmus, Arencibia and Bautista. Do not know if the game will be called, but Alvarez is in line for a win.

I said it last week. I’ll say it again. The strength and conditioning coach needs to be replaced. Something systemic is wrong within the organization. Too many elbow injuries. Just too many to be a coincidence. I’m guessing the stretching, lifting and exercising between starts is the problem. This is unheard of.
