I hope he gets well soon.

Problem is, that until it got diagnosed the utter fatigue and tiredness associated with a bleeding esophagus is a gradual progression of which you had no idea about. Until diagnosed with it 15 years ago, you thought maybe its an ulcer, something in the colon causing a bleed, and a lot of TUMS, then going in and having four units of blood in a transfusion, then you realize it's pretty serious. And after learning the hard way and just undergoing my third trip to the hospital for transfusions, it's iron supplements the rest of your life. Not that it's unmanageable or really tragic, it's not, there's lots worse, but the anemia it causes can be handled you just have to be smart, a little careful, and he'll be just like normal, that's all. A problem that can be managed.

What the hell?? Can ANYBODY on this damned team stay healthy?

This is well past the point of absurdity. What next? Ortiz out of the lineup because he can't get a piece of apple skin out from between his teeth?

I love the Red Sox and I'm pissed at the guy. His diet - not tobacco- has been a sticking point with the Red Sox for some time. He's admitted that his food intake consists of fast food and little else.

Doesn't matter if he's got a high metabolism and can keep the weight off. His cholesterol and acidity is still likely to be off the charts, and both of those things can lead to significant problems - as we are likely seeing here.

No jokes from me. A GI bleed can be serious. Even fatal. He'll have to be careful, even with taking an ordinary aspirin, for the rest of his life. Coffee and alcohol, should be avoided. Hoping he recovers quickly and fully won't stop me from rooting against him on the field, though.
