I’m sure you were asking for Plouffe to be designated for assignment a month or so ago as well.

Why throw that in there? You have a perfectly valid critique there, but then you go and write that? You have no idea how I feel about Plouffe, and I certainly wouldn’t have argued any such thing. (Though that’s a topic worth writing about. The Twins have handled Plouffe well this year when they certainly could have buried him).

As to Dozier, if he ranks 176 out of 210, how is that bottom 5? That would seem to leave 34 worse hitter with enough plate appearance, and many that are worse, but don’t qualify. The math doesn’t seem to add up. I’m sure you were asking for Plouffe to be designated for assignment a month or so ago as well. If the kid can hit .225, that is better than most of the callups did for the Twins last year. Tosoni and Butera hit well under .200 last year. I think there were one or two more that were under or barely above .200. With his number of at bats, one or two good games could jump him up 15-20 points, and then it wouldn’t look as bad.

Unless Valencia picks it up and they shift Carroll back, options are scarce. The Twins stuck with Butera’s bat (or lack there of) as a replacement to Mauer all last year, so little reason to suspect this being treated all that differently given what they have to work with.

Exactly. Too many people wanted to give up on Trevor Plouffe too, and that would have been a mistake. Dozier may not be an answer for the Twins, but he’s not going to stop them from making the playoffs this year.

I forgot about Carrol, but moving him to SS and playing Plouffe at 3rd who will play 2nd? Plus Dozier just hit one out. He puts a little pop in a lineup that can use it.
