Things are going spectacularly for Mike Trout.

The 20-year-old Angels outfielder entered play Wednesday with a sparkling .335/.395/.528 batting line and just made one of the best catches you’ll ever see, robbing Orioles shortstop J.J. Hardy of his 12th home run by leaping close to three feet over the center field wall at Baltimore’s Camden Yards. has the video. You’ll want to see this.

I am watching the game. It was one of the best plays of the season. Just a fabulous catch.

  2. js20011041 - Jun 27, 2012 at 8:24 PM

Man, I love baseball. That dude’s fun to watch.

  3. dgatz - Jun 27, 2012 at 8:24 PM

Mike leaps in Baltimore, mistaken for All-Star MLB rookie. Mike leaps in San Fran, correctly identified as Rainbow Trout, a delicious alternative to all-star trout.

Watching the game as well. That catch was amazing.

  5. seeinred87 - Jun 27, 2012 at 8:35 PM

So many dumping/diving/sliding catch highlights are pretty lame, where the guy will make the catch then do one of those things.

    That, however, was spectacular.

  6. firedude7160 - Jun 27, 2012 at 8:46 PM

Easily the best catch I have seen all season. That is a very talented young man right there

  7. jimatkins - Jun 27, 2012 at 8:48 PM

Saw the replay about four times, watching the Angels game. Trout had his waist at the top of the wall, pretty near. Amazing kid to watch. If he keeps this up, we’re looking at a seriously good player in the making.

That had to be close to a 3 ft vertical..holy cow

    • rooney24 - Jun 28, 2012 at 10:46 AM

Great catch, and love the enthusiasm. But, where are people getting 3 feet over the wall? Where did you get that his waist was at the top of the wall? His armpit hit the top of the wall, not his waist. It was a great catch. There isn’t any reason to exaggerate to oversell it.

You have to look at how high his feet are off the ground. White guys can’t jump? This one can. Incredible catch by a very gifted athlete. Thanks for the video link.

    Holy @*#*$. The ups.

  9. drewsylvania - Jun 27, 2012 at 8:51 PM

Only Wise’s catch to preserve Buehrle’s no-hitter might be better.

Great catch. Timed it just right: at the apex of his leap, the ball hits the glove, right before he thumps into the wall, still in the air. Kid’s a great athlete. Darnell McDonald made a pretty nice catch today too, over at Fenway. Nearly fell into the bullpen, but also a pull-ball-back-onto-the-field catch while still in the air off of Kelly Johnson’s big fly ball. Robbed Ole Hard Luck Johnson of a homer, so he did. I love baseball highlights.

What struck me was not how good that catch was, it was amazing, but how easy he made it look. That is a hallmark of a great fielder, not just making a play, but making it look easy. Great timing to get to his spot while he still had momentum and did not have to wait and jump flat footed.

    • drunkenhooliganism - Jun 27, 2012 at 11:08 PM

He did make it look easy. But then watched the jumbotron in awe of the catch. It was like a “holy @#$% I just did that.”

    Man crush.

Gahhh sorry cur looks like i unintentionally ripped of a portion of your comment. My apologies, i had written mine and left it up and then hit enter after i cam back from dinner.

Hardy got robbed next AB too, by Aybar.

Trout is also 4-6 with an RBI and 3 runs. I think ROY is in the bag and we need to start thinking about MVP.

Nice catch. Great little ball player. He’s already been informed that to have a legendary career, you not only need to be dominate AND wind rings, they must be Yankee rings. Better figure it out mike. There are two types of players on the hall of fame- players going in with the Yankees hat, and those wearing a generic baseball cap.

    • ezthinking - Jun 28, 2012 at 1:47 AM

My daughter has a wind ring. Got it in a Happy Meal. Pretty stupid toy. Fitting metaphor for your comment.

    • lazlosother - Jun 28, 2012 at 8:28 AM

Good God, you are a complete jackass. As a Yankee fan, I wish people like you would jump on the Mets bandwagon.

Randy: Why do you intentionally act like a penis?
Dude…you need to immediately implement a personal rule. No drinking and posting.

Right wing, narrow minded, hateful, arrogant, NY asshole. Nothing more, nothing less.

  18. steviep23 - Jun 28, 2012 at 12:54 AM

I hate when, people use, commas acting, like they’re smart, but, they’re not.

  19. Tim's Neighbor - Jun 28, 2012 at 1:53 AM

He made that look so easy that I was distracted by the awful person in the front row (to the left) cowering in fear from the ball. Boo that person and their entire craven family.

  20. skeleteeth - Jun 28, 2012 at 8:40 AM

Mike Trout, good young player. I can live without chest thumps though but that’s not what I’m hear to say. Does the Angels broadcast crew have a fucking sound guy? I try to watch west coast games as much as I can but I have to watch the opposing teams play-by-play (unless its Chicago, Detroit or KC) when the Angels are involved. Do Victor Rojas and Gubicza do their own soundchecks? The distortion is ridiculous. Check the motherfuckin’ levels, bitches!

  21. stex52 - Jun 28, 2012 at 9:09 AM

Not too concerned about the chest thump. That was adrenaline. He didn’t think he could catch that ball. I loved the hat tip from the pitcher.

    Man I love baseball!!

  22. stlouis1baseball - Jun 28, 2012 at 10:56 AM

Wonderful catch. For my money…the kid is the best young player in the game right now.
