So what position do you play? Because no one “fears” anyone in baseball, let alone someone on the internet…

Unlike you..who would try to save a few bucks and then then total the car and woinder why you just lost 200k.

Regarding 200 million payroll.

You are delusional to even hint that the Yankees have suffered anywhere near the most injuries in MLB. As of now, the Yanks have lost a total of zero games between CC and Andy. Joba hasn’t been effective since??? Ellsbury is miles above Gardner. Mo is a legit injury – but to this point, has not effected them too much, however it may well do so by the end of the year. You don’t even have to look outside their division to find a team that has dealt with far more injuries in the Sox.

They are looking at getting back Ellsbury and Crawford in the OF. Bailey to finally have a closer. Shifting Alfredo back to LR role. Not to mention if/when (a big IF) lester, bucholz, and beckett round into form. I won’t mention Lackey / Dice-K as it probably benefitted the Sox by having them on the shelf. That’s a scary team sitting 6.5 games back at the end of June.

The Yanks just have to plug along and hope CC returns quickly. If they falter at the same time the Sox get healthy, things could change quickly.

CC and Petite just got hurt. Let’s see what that does. Pineda had a good few months last year and has sucked since. Gardner vs Ellsbury for missing outfielder…I’d have to go with last years almost MVP. Crawford vs Swisher…nod to Swisher unless Crawford returns to form in which case Crawford. Rivera over Bailey. Joba is equivalent of Bard. Petite great post season pitcher no doubt. Overall yanks have been healthier. Sox had 8 outfielders on DL at same time.

Talented but ALWAYS hurt (you knew this when you got him), Very Solid, Great, Over-rated, Horrible, Over-The-Hill, Never-Was-Good.

Cannot even come close to comparing losing best closer ever (Mo), a number 2 starter (Pineda), a great bullpen piece (Joba), best defensive LF in the game by a mile (Gardner), best 8th Inning guy in the game (Robertson), staff ace (CC), one of best post-season pitchers ever (Pettitte), starting RF with high OBP & HRs (Swisher) for anywhere from a few weeks to the majority/all of the season.

Half the guys the Red Sox “lost” (Crawford, Lackey, Melancon, Dice-K) helped the team by not being around to stink the damn place up any more than it already did.

I am guessing you haven’t seen Ian pitch this year lol.

An ERA around 4.5 playing in that division full of craptastic offenses lol.

Last year he got 14 starts versus teams in the bottom 6 offensively (in all of MLB) and the regression some people expected has presented itself so far this year.

Star + Ian Kennedy do not go together.

10 out of 30? Not bad, but are there many prospects that other teams strongly covet? How many could be traded without denuding the farm as Jeter and friends are getting old.

I did exaggerate when I wrote that Cano was the only former Yankee prospect that impressed me. Jackson has played well in Detroit and Montero has upside, but probably not as much upside as indicated by the initial hype.

It’s not just the NY media that likes the Yanks farm system. Law, Goldstein and Callis all had them in the 10ish area. They’re not Tampa or KC of recent years, but it’s a solid system.

Granderson’s 11.6 fWAR (despite a suspiciously-low defensive rating this year – I’d have him closer to a -5 CF than the -30 he’s on pace for) mean they don’t. Sorry, the Yanks got more than fair value in that trade.

Church, Bay actually wouldn’t be that bad, since there’s virtually no way they Yankees would allow that option to vest. They’d make him the short half of a DH platoon, and there’s no way he could complain about that, given his performance. If the Mets also make it clear that they’re platooning him, he might be a little more willing to waive the NTC to at least platoon for a contender. I guess the only question would be how the Luxury Tax handles his 2014 buyout. I know it’s AAV, but would it be the AAV of 2010-13 or 2010-14? If the former, I’d have no problems. The latter, and the Yankees want no part of a deal adding $13 million to their LT bill in 2014.

I think the yanks need to make a move here. The Red Sox have hung around and half their team has been out. Bailey, Bucholz, Ellsbury, Crawford, Matzuzaka, Youkilis, Melancon….the list goes on. What happens when these guys come back? Probably get more injuries I guess. If they don’t though? Middlebrooks is the real deal too.

All teams have prospects. Most of them fail to become productive major leaguers. You have more information on the Yankees farm system than I have; however, based on what I have read and seen in the past several years, most Yankee prospects seem to be over rated by the NY media. Cano is the only one who has impressed me in the big leagues.

WhenMattStairsisking — Ian Kennedy is not a star. He is 5-7 with a 4.42 ERA in the NL West with a 1.345 WHIP. His fip and xfip numbers are a bit better than that, but not a lot. He is a pretty extreme fly-ball pitcher. His ERA in the AL East with half his games in Yankee Stadium would be 5.50 with HRs leaving the stadium twice a game. He had a great year last year that has proven to be an anomaly for whatever reason.
Proudly Canadian — They have tons of resources to trade. When you are a perenial contender, you don’t trade starting players on your team at the deadline, you trade minor league prospects for additional players on other teams. The Yanks’ farm system is LOADED. Gary Sanchez, Mason Williams, Tyler Austin, Manny Banuelos, Dellin Betances, Adam Warren, DJ Mitchell, David Phelps, Dante Bichette Jr., etc. Yes Banuelos and Betances’ values are down, but teams want them for potential. The Phillies want those cost controlled prospects for Cole Hamels, because he’s expensive and leaving and they are cheap and staying. Same with Milwaukee and Greinke.
I could see the Yanks trade for either of them to step in as a #1 now, #2 after CC is back and in the playoffs. A #1 and #2 like CC and Greinke in the playoffs with the Yanks’ offense would be pretty tough to beat in any length series.
Or the Yanks could sit back with the best record in baseball and wait for CC and Pettitte to get back and by that time, they’ll still likely have the best record in baseball the way they are currently playing.
The Yanks DL players this year (CC, Pineda, Pettitte, Mariano Rivera, Dave Robertson, Joba Chamberlain, and Brett Gardener) could add college players at every other position and still likely win the NL or AL Central. I kid, of course, but not by much!

I think this is spot on. I have been wondering when Sabathia’s weight would start him breaking down, so the Yankees need to be careful. I’d guess that the distance between NY and Boston could be down to about 3.5 games by the break, and the Red Sox are getting healthier and younger. Could be fun race after all.

Cano and Granderson are the only position players that other teams would want in trade. The other Yankee position players are old and tend to be very well paid. The B & B boys who were the flavor of the day last season have turned into pumpkins. Trading for decent pitching help is going to be difficult.
