Glenn Beck shouldn't be taken seriously. True.

However, because Glenn Beck <i>is</i> taken seriously by and influences a rather substantial chunk of the (<i>now</i>-registered) electorate - his words cannot and should not be dismissed out of hand.

The same can be said (to less important degree) of the Boston sports media. Too much of anything is not healthy. And BSM is like a daily diet of cheeseburgers, fries and cola - without the nutrition information printed on the packaging. You'll keep eating it because it tastes good - until one day you realize how foolish you've been.

Sports Hub unbiased? Sppppfffft. WhatEVAH, dude.

Apathetic, perhaps.

Most definitely they are resolved to take the opposite viewpoint . . . but that's just bias against the bias.

Last Fall, to the casual sports fan, I'm sure Massarotti came off as some sort of folk hero the way he went after John Henry. But to many others, myself included, he came off as a whiny twit who sounded incapable of separating fact from fiction (or just unwilling to).

His self-serving rhetoric, served to negatively influence and mis-shape the thoughts of far too many Red Sox fans in Boston last Fall.

The problem we have here in Boston sports media now is the younger generation of sports fans have no reference point. They have no concept of the fact that the Globe Sports section used to be the mecca of sports journalism.

The day they hired "Mazz" away from the bottom feeding Herald, I knew it was the beginning of the end for the once hallowed landing ground for future Hall of Fame sports journalists. Ironically, nowadays I find more credibility in the pages of the Herald than I do in the Globe or Boston.com.

The <i>only</i> reason I listen to "The Sports Hub" is for Felger. He's consistent. He's irreverent. And he does the rarest thing of all in Boston sports media . . . he admits when he is wrong. His partner on the other hand is a media conglomerate shill who writes to generate page views. He could care less whether or not what he is writing is right . . . or even makes any logical sense.

And don't even get me going about that bloated bowl floater Andy Gresh. That dude failed in Providence. Failed worse on Sirius. Then somehow by the grace of God finds himself in mid-days between two highly rated programs paired with a guy who is even dumber than he is.

Two luckiest guys in Boston.

WEEI is far from perfect. John Dennis often comes off as an old coot. Callahan is ornery wack-a-doodle Conservative, but I'm starting to think some of that is pure shtick.

Mutt is the most transparently intentionally ignorant guy on Boston sports radio. He is the guy who believes its his job to voice the populist fan sentiment even when he doesn't believe that sentiment for a second. It's so friggin annoying.

I went off on him one day when he was advocating for Aaron Cook to join the Sox rotation - as if Cook was the likes of Andy Pettitte coming out of retirement (first time I had called in six months, because I couldn't believe what I was hearing.). Lou just sat back and listened - probably turned off his mic and laughed - because he knew I was 100% correct about how dumb Mutt's take on Cook was.

Merloni is one of the few respectable guys on Boston sports radio. Why? I believe it's because he is 50% former-Major League athlete and 50% regular everyday guy. He knows how both sides think and perceive things. Basically, he's not a douche and that's one of the highest compliments I can pay anyone on the radio in Boston.

Ordway's shtick has been around for many many years. The best thing he did was boot that rotating panel of gluttonous slobbering homers in favor of Michael Holley - one of the few respectable journalists left in Boston - except he's no longer a 'journalist'.

Mike Adams is 100% pure shtickcoma and he makes no secret about it. He says some of the dumbest things imaginable, but if you've been following Adams as long as I have - it comes off fairly harmless if not inane. Not enough people listen at night for it to truly matter . . . but just enough to keep him employed.

He is often saved by the one guy in Boston sports media with a strong common sense and ability to sift through the endless BS that the likes of the Sports Hub produces . . . John Ryder.

Now if you think that WEEI is biased, then just wait until Sports Hub wrestles a flagship contract away from WEEI - just watch how quickly your favorite half-wits turn into green-teamers and red-suckers if they don't get fired first.

Buchholz treats sickness and injury by going to a charity event in support of families that have suffered with sickness and injury right after he's been sick and ill. How are you missing that this is a GOOD THING to have done? What precisely did he do there that so irks you? So far the big controversy is that he went at all. Big friggin deal. He was probably driven there. He probably ate a meal and chatted with some people. Probably sped up his recovery from all the good feeling. The only way that this is a negative story is if YOU WANT TO MAKE IT ONE. If anything's set back his recovery is all this asshattery over him being a decent person.

townballblog, their terrible ratings??? They are crushing the ratings right now time after time, because they are worth a listen they make talk radio and sports talk fun and relevant. I'd love to hear what area you come from that has such a great sports talk selection, I've traveled all over the place and can't say anywhere is really that much different.

As for the blog post Craig you just need to lighten up, step back and understand why this is a story. This is a story because of the way these players treat sickness/injuries after blowing up internally last season. Two of the top 3 pitchers this year have been hurt or sick and have found the strength to get themselves out but not to one of their team's games but instead to either a round of golf or a pool party at a local casino.

Toucher and Rich weren't mocking the event being for charity or that it was Hill's charity, they went so far as to say that he had a much bigger following and they'd have loved to be invited, seeing as Rich is the President of the Miracle League they love giving back and donations. They also understand injuries and sicknesses need time to heal so getting out of the hospital and ending up at a casino charity event does not look good for you. That is calling out of work for being sick and being caught that night out at a casino charity event, no one cares the event was for charity they care that you either a) lied or b) weren't resting and taking care of yourself to get back to work ASAP.

Another boston bashing write up by some writer who has never really followed the individuals involved and happened to come across this who cares how. This is what they do, their job is to get people listening and hyped up about boston sports and this is a way to do it, find someone doing something they probably shouldn't have done. Admirable he showed up, helping out charities is always a great thing and helps bring in more money, but there are times when you have to step back and say is this the best decision right now based on the circumstances?

In how many places would attending a charity event when you are unable to travel with the team be perceived as a bad thing? Apparently Boston, but definitely not where I'm from.

As far as I know he wasn't doing cannonballs or boozing it up, he was making an appearance. It's no different than if he went to a park and walked around for a while.

Grow up

Smoking gun for whom? Buchholz being an idiot (as the source basically claims), or the source being an idiot? By the way, that article doesn't even post an author.
Underachieving to the tune of winning 9 of their last 11 games, and a 11-3-1 record in their last 14 series played, all while enduring injuries for pitchers and anyone who so much as steps foot in the outfield, at times ineffective pitching, and getting underwhelming performance from the superstar right side of the infield. The team never does anything right.

Anyway, if you need to spend $600 to have any fun at a baseball game at Fenway, that's on you.
