Kudos to Harper. All last year, it seemed like everyone was sharpening knives, just waiting to rip the kid a new one for his “immature,” “arrogant” behaviour once he arrived in the majors. And in just a couple months time, he’s completely turned that image around. With each new story, it’s become harder and harder not to like the guy.

The majority of family is from Wisconsin, where people of any age can drink alcohol with parental consent/accompaniment. I’ve legally drank as a 16 year-old at weddings, 19 year-old at bars, etc. As long as one of my parents are there. I’ve only encountered one Hooters that doesn’t allow this as a policy, and uses their right to refuse service to anyone to do it. It made family gatherings much more fun!

**Side note – How great is baseball right now? I’m watching Harper mash home runs and fly around the field like he’s on fire, Mike Trout robbing home runs and hitting EVERYTHING in sight, and Clayton Kershaw snapping off ridiculous curveballs, making professional hitters look silly.

Just an FYI but in the state I live in the 21 year old drinking age applies to purchasing alcohol and consuming it in public places or places of business. A person under 21 can consume alcohol in his home or the home of a friend/relative providing it was lawfully purchased and their is a person age 21 present.
Of course it is a mute point as Harper is a Mormon and abstains from alcohol.

The criticism was largely based on a few incidents people had heard about from the minors combined with a general disdain for Scott Boras and the way he and the Harpers gamed MLB’s draft-eligibility rules, but it’s more or less dissipated as he’s continued to handle himself really well at the major-league level. I think the only thing he’s really done in the bigs that people have critiqued was dodging the media after Yankee pitching hung an 0-7 on him, and even that just wasn’t that big of a deal.

Very commendable gesture. The Hollis story is truly heartbreaking. I’m not sure Harper has received the level of criticism Craig tends to portray, but his deportment since reaching the Majors has been as outstanding as his level of play.
