  1. cur68 - Jul 1, 2012 at 1:09 PM

Look at that AL hitting lineup. My Dog, that’s Murder’s Row right there. Miggy and E5 better be there somewhere, waiting in the wings.

    • natstowngreg - Jul 1, 2012 at 2:19 PM

Won’t matter if the NL pitchers are on. That’s the way the All-Star Game goes. Top starters go 1-2 innings at full blast, followed by top relievers. Resulting in low-scoring games.

  2. redguy12588 - Jul 1, 2012 at 1:25 PM

Hmmm, must be some mistake, I don’t see Andrew McCutchens name on there, or James McDonald. You better fix that.

    • redguy12588 - Jul 1, 2012 at 1:32 PM

It wasn’t on there when I posted. I got bamboozled

  3. meadowlark89 - Jul 1, 2012 at 1:30 PM

Carlos Ruiz from the Phillies should be a starter he’s having the best season of his career.

    • led65 - Jul 1, 2012 at 1:38 PM

Doesn’t matter yadier molina is the best catcher in baseball. He should be starting over posey and ruiz just check the stats

      • ame123 - Jul 1, 2012 at 1:40 PM

Checked the stats. Ruiz’s are way better.

      • led65 - Jul 1, 2012 at 1:43 PM

You must be high there is no one that is as good as yadi defensively behind the plate. Nobody in baseball would argue that and defense is a big part of the game. On top of that yadi is putting up great numbers offensively so sorry ruiz is a bench warmer

      • ame123 - Jul 1, 2012 at 1:45 PM

so sorry, Ruiz is better on D too.

      • led65 - Jul 1, 2012 at 1:50 PM

Lmao sure if I did internet searches for random wannabe experts and their measuring systems I could find a hundred that have yadier over ruiz. How many gold gloves does ruiz have? How many does yadi have? Exactly! On top of that only the best base stealers will even attempt to run on molina where as ruiz has more average guys running on him because he’s good but not feared like yadi. Thank instead of reading “expert” blog writers

      • ame123 - Jul 1, 2012 at 1:57 PM

        Ok, I’ll ‘thank’ on it.

      • cur68 - Jul 1, 2012 at 1:59 PM

led65, dude, we did what you asked: checked the stats. It is correct. Chooch > Yadi. Even by eyeball, Chooch is better (if neck tats are counted, the difference is HUUUUUGE). Let it go, man. I like Yadi, too: he’s a Molina and that’s Pedigree Stud Catcher, right there. BUT, Chooch is Chooch and, so far this season at least, that’s > Yadi. Its Chooch as for your catcher over Yadi.

      • joebagliere - Jul 1, 2012 at 2:33 PM

Doesn’t matter what either of you say or overblown stats you throw up posey is the best catcher in baseball and Yadira Molina and chooch are both bench Warner’s … So sit back on that bench and grab some pine MEAT!!!!!

      • skerney - Jul 2, 2012 at 5:36 AM

7 million people disagree with you. Posey = most votes for an NL player in history.

    • Ben - Jul 1, 2012 at 1:47 PM

By WAR Ruiz is at 4.0, Molina 3.2. By wRC+ Ruiz is at 172, Molina 142.
Gotta tip it to Ruiz. 172 wRC+ by a catcher? That’s nuts.

    • deathmonkey41 - Jul 1, 2012 at 4:24 PM

I don’t think people like Ruiz’s arrogance. Maybe if he spent more time just playing the game and less time looking down his nose at people, he would have gotten more votes.

      • NJgriffNC - Jul 1, 2012 at 7:54 PM

What?? This is sarcasm, right? If so, well done, because I laughed out loud. If not, please give an example of how he is arrogant.

      • sasquash20 - Jul 1, 2012 at 11:18 PM

Your clearly a hater. I have never ever even heard of anything like that. Chooch is the man. He should start with Molina backing him up. Posey will have plenty of time over his career to be the NL catcher.

  4. Stiller43 - Jul 1, 2012 at 1:33 PM

Not knockin the NL pitchers, but no james mcdonald? Dudes on fire this year

    • gotmelk - Jul 1, 2012 at 7:23 PM

Not only pitching too, if it weren’t for him Matt Cain would have two perfecto’s this year

  5. Ben - Jul 1, 2012 at 1:34 PM

Grumble grumble where’s “insert name here” grumble grumble

    • natstowngreg - Jul 1, 2012 at 2:13 PM

Craig should save this, and post it at all-Star selection time every season. Well done.

  6. gotmelk - Jul 1, 2012 at 1:35 PM

Thats ridiculous that Papelbon is in and Santiago Casilla isn’t

    • gotmelk - Jul 1, 2012 at 1:47 PM

      Casilla has a 2.70 ERA & 21 saves while Papelbon a 3.03 ERA and 18 saves

  7. meadowlark89 - Jul 1, 2012 at 1:36 PM

2 Cubs Lahair and Castro what joke, LaHair should be the only one

    • meteor32 - Jul 1, 2012 at 2:46 PM

Castro is 11th in the NL in WAR and has the highest WAR of any NL shortstop according to baseballreference. While fangraphs has him as 4th among SS in WAR, they have him with the highest defensive value. I don’t see how Starlin Castro is not a deserving of this All-Star selection.

  8. billobrienschindimple - Jul 1, 2012 at 1:36 PM

How in the hell is Cutch not included.

MLB is such a sham and it amazes me that so many people see it as a legitimate sporting endeavor. One league with 14 teams, including a division of 4, and the other with 16, and 6, respectively. I know they are addressing this, but there are so many other flaws. Too many games to begin with.

    • ame123 - Jul 1, 2012 at 1:40 PM

There is this thing called the refresh button. Try it.

    • mlp3180 - Jul 1, 2012 at 2:30 PM

“MLB is such a sham and it amazes me that so many people see it as a legitimate sporting endeavor.”

And yet here you are posting about the MLB on a MLB news website.

  9. meadowlark89 - Jul 1, 2012 at 1:51 PM

No Scott Diamond or Willingham on the AL Team that’s an injustice, but 2 Cubs on the NL Roster what a joke

  10. rockthered1286 - Jul 1, 2012 at 1:53 PM

MLB Popularity Contest results are in!
What a joke the AllStar game is…

  11. dondada10 - Jul 1, 2012 at 1:58 PM

Sandoval overtook Wright ?! Come on, New York!

    • granted42 - Jul 1, 2012 at 3:16 PM

As a Giants’ fan, I’m surprised by this. Wright is having a great year, while the Panda is merely having a good year. My guess is that Yankee fans stuffed the ballot box for Sandoval just to piss off Mets’ fans.

      • gotmelk - Jul 1, 2012 at 7:06 PM

Could’ve been us giants fans, Melky was 130,000 votes out of the starting lineup, and in three days he became the leading outfield vote getter.

  12. mydadyourmom - Jul 1, 2012 at 2:01 PM

    No Encarnacion? Puh-lease.

    • cur68 - Jul 1, 2012 at 2:03 PM

Yep. E5 deserves to be there. He’s been in Beast Mode all season long. Just not a popular guy I guess. ‘effin AS balloting is friggin joke.

Sorry Edwin: I voted for ya, man.

  13. metsfan69 - Jul 1, 2012 at 2:02 PM

How in the hell did pablo get voted over David Wright?

    • ame123 - Jul 1, 2012 at 2:04 PM

      SF nerds jamming all day.

      • skerney - Jul 2, 2012 at 5:39 AM

In Silicon Valley, we’re called millionaires, or “Sir” during business hours.

  14. mgv38 - Jul 1, 2012 at 2:04 PM

How does CC get named? Just for the bonus money?
And Austin Jackson gets a three-day vacation. He would have been a beter choice than Trumbo.
I probably would have picked Holliday over Bruce.
Scheduled to pitch the weekend before the ASG: Weaver, Felix, Sale, Gio, Kershaw, and Wilson. Let the defections begin.

  15. maddogg911 - Jul 1, 2012 at 2:07 PM

    Pujols deserves to be in.

    • gotmelk - Jul 1, 2012 at 7:09 PM

He’s tearing it up now, but with a .271 average and only 12 homeruns… everyone knew that an AL first baseman was getting snubbed from the ASG before the season started

  16. walzzzy1 - Jul 1, 2012 at 2:08 PM

Braun should be a starter!! Unreal!

    • gotmelk - Jul 1, 2012 at 7:10 PM

      Braun’s testosterone levels!! Unreal!

  17. soundsofsuccess7 - Jul 1, 2012 at 2:08 PM

lol@ no pujols.. he’s hitting as well as ever now that mickey hatcher is gone..

  18. soundsofsuccess7 - Jul 1, 2012 at 2:09 PM

who the hell are wade miley and Ryan cook

  19. chrisny3 - Jul 1, 2012 at 2:11 PM

David Wright was robbed. It’s a joke that Sandoval was voted in over Wright. Current WAR: Wright 4.5, Sandoval 1.1. It isn’t even close. Wright should be the starter. And for the reserve I would have picked Chipper Jones, this being his final year. The numbers for Jones and Sandoval are pretty close.

They should stop making this a fan voting contest in part based on attendance, especially if they’re going to keep making the game count for home field advantage in the WS. Just call it what it is, a MLB ballot stuffing/attendance contest.

    • chrisny3 - Jul 1, 2012 at 2:30 PM

For anyone who gave me a thumbs down, can you give one good reason Sandoval should be the starting third baseman over Wright other than the fact SF fans are really good at stuffing the internet ballot? Seriously, I’d like to know.

      • tsi431 - Jul 1, 2012 at 3:07 PM

AL fans stuffing the ballot box for a lower quality player (Yankee fans).

      • chrisny3 - Jul 1, 2012 at 3:49 PM

tsi431, not a “good reason” but certainly a perfectly plausible one. It seems they also stuffed the box on Granderson. He’s rated in the bottom half of all AL centerfielders in terms of WAR this season, yet he gets a starting spot.

      • chrisny3 - Jul 1, 2012 at 3:50 PM

        Virtual silence! Thought so.

      • churchoftheperpetuallyoutraged - Jul 1, 2012 at 3:53 PM

Because it’s a popularity contest, not a contest of ability. But keep blaming Yankee fans

      • manhandler1 - Jul 1, 2012 at 4:03 PM

The thumbs down are because of your whining. Deal with it.

      • gotmelk - Jul 1, 2012 at 7:17 PM

Because he’s not on the giants… On the giants radio station (KNBR 680), a guy called in and said he voted 1000 for the Giants and Yankees. Then the host asked if he really thought Pablo should start over Wright, the dude who called in went dead silent.

      • skerney - Jul 2, 2012 at 5:46 AM

I’d just like to remind everyone that Phillies fans once voted a broken down RETIRED man to the all star team. Reds fans once stuffed the box so heavily that they elected 8 starters to the NL team. Wright deserves to start, sure, but the ASG is what it always has been, a popularity contest voted on by the fans. The Giants fans just showed up more than Mets fans. NYM’s you have a great third baseman, next year come strong and vote him in like the SFG’s fans did for the Panda.

      • chrisny3 - Jul 2, 2012 at 12:13 PM

skerney, the point is the system makes you have to sit at your computer and vote over and over again like a mindless drone. Or it forces a team’s front office/marketing to go on a ridiculous get-out-the-vote campaign to get their fans to act like mindless drones. Sorry, but my time is too valuable for it. I’m going to vote a handful of times at most, but I’m not going to become a mindless drone

They should change the system — especially if they’re going to keep making the game count for home field advantage. Why not let the managers, coaches and players pick the starting lineup and most of the reserves, and then give the fans a handful of reserves to choose? That’s the extent of what the fan influence should be. Otherwise they should just rename the game to the mindless-drone-ballot-stuffing-all-star-game and stop pretending it is something else.

  20. sdelmonte - Jul 1, 2012 at 2:13 PM

    Seriously, Sandoval over Wright?

    • manhandler1 - Jul 1, 2012 at 4:05 PM

      Yeah, Seriously.

    • NJgriffNC - Jul 1, 2012 at 8:00 PM

I hate the Mets and I think this is ridiculous. Wright should be in. No question.

  21. maddogg911 - Jul 1, 2012 at 2:17 PM

Best team in baseball is clearly the angels. Had a horrible 1st month, but have been on a tear since. Complete teams with no holes

    • gotmelk - Jul 1, 2012 at 7:19 PM

Something I love about baseball… you judge how good a team is by looking at their season record, not month record

    • stlouis1baseball - Jul 2, 2012 at 2:25 PM

Did you just say the Angels have a team of complete assholes?

  22. Jackson Scofield - Jul 1, 2012 at 2:26 PM

NL SS picks are SO screwed up. The starter has the fifth highest WAR this year out of NL SS. The best NL SS doesn’t make the team (Jed Lowrie). Desmond deserved it, and with 3 SS Castro making it in us fine. Castro should be Cubs lone rep, with LaHair out. Rollins is still > Furcal too. Furcal as starter is such a joke, but that’s what happens when you play for a good team (even though they have faltered lately) that plays in a baseball-crazed market.

  23. natstowngreg - Jul 1, 2012 at 2:31 PM

Glad to see Ian Desmond get a little love. Strasburg and Gio were obvious choices. Tyler Clippard was worthy but didn’t quite make it.

Harper is on the “last guy on the roster” ballot with Michael Bourn, Chipper, Aaron Hill, and David Freese. Think he has a chance.

(AL: Jake Peavy, Jonathan Broxton, Yu Darvish, Jason Hammel, Ernesto Frieri).

  24. trevormcnamara - Jul 1, 2012 at 3:04 PM

Why is david wright not starting over sandoval?

    • manhandler1 - Jul 1, 2012 at 4:25 PM

Because his fans didn’t get off their provervbial posteriors and vote.

    • skerney - Jul 2, 2012 at 5:52 AM

      Is this a real question?
      Do you really not understand?
Must I explain how voting works?

      Ok, here goes.

Sandoval ate most of David Wright’s votes.

  25. greej1938l - Jul 1, 2012 at 3:18 PM
