I just thought it was weird that a population in New England would name themselves after a spice that (at the time) was probably only grown in Indonesia.

paperlions,

Yeah, that's one theory. Arguably the weakest of them. Certainly not fact. Also 'scam artists' is a bit of a stretch, but whatever.

Most likely is that Connecticut became the main import point of nutmeg to New England - which was obviously a valuable spice and especially as it became a key ingredient in countless recipes of New England origin and adaptation.

Of course, I could just go and trump any and all and drop the hammer with

#constitutionstatepride

(First Constitution in the New World).

Since bobby v has something to do with it, I'd give it a 30% chance of it being an honest report.

How many times has bobby v been caught in a lie this year? At this point I'd trust my congressman over bobby v.
How do you know bobby v is lying? His lips are moving.

I love that Connecticutters take pride in the "nutmeg" nickname, a name that arose because of scam artists that would carve wood to look like nutmeg (an expensive imported spice from Indonesia at the time). Not as bad as "sooners", but still pretty funny.

I saw it at IFFBoston a couple months ago, and it's pretty good. One thing that really struck me was how often we're given the impression of buscones being nothing but parasites and scam artists in most baseball coverage, whereas they come across pretty well here. It really makes the new signing rules seem even more exploitive.

It'll be playing Boston's (well, Brookline's) Coolidge Corner Theatre soon, with Bobby V hosting a preview screening. Not quite "Sugar", but worth a look.
