Moving Brewers to NL and Astros to AL, 2005 World Series, Hurricane Ike game at Milwaukee, Colt 45 uniform controversy… He continues to shaft my Astros left and right. And onto more general issues. When all these blown calls on foul balls and our calls on force plays that blatantly express the need for instant replay, what does he talk about? Getting rid of the fake to third look to first move. I think you may put too much stock in Craig’s decisions on which articles to right.
I like his writing (for the most part).
But he (like a lot of writers)…tends to write about things that draw headlines and page views. That’s sort of their job. It doesn’t mean there is any merit to it whatsoever.
Case in point: The Torii Hunter (racist cops) article from a few months back.

Oh I saw your response Church. I just don’t agree with you.
In the ASG no one throws more than an inning or two anyway.
So (in my opinion)…in this instance your Closer theory doesn’t carry any weight.
Further, I feel you actually helped my argument in that there really aren’t any bad selections. Personally, you could make a case for Bruce NOT being deserving.
But all-in-all…they are fine selections nonetheless.

Look, Greinke deserves to be on the roster, so do a few other guys. LaRussa is not well-liked, at all, by most of Milwaukee’s players, and the difference between LaRussa and Ozzie Guillen is that Ozzie will be honest when asked if he ordered someone drilled.

As for Bud, well, he helped negotiate the worst TV deal (for the fans) in all of sports. I love how passionate fans pay $$$ for MLB extra innings, MLB.TV, etc. only to have Fox get exclusive airtime on Saturdays and not make the games they aren’t showing in over-the-air markets available via one of the many ways fans pay for such a privilege.

The NFL does it, and ironically, as a much smaller supply and an even greater demand…they could leverage the scarcity principle, but do not. MLB could be even bigger than it is now, but it won’t under Selig’s horrendous marketing watch.

You don’t? Then your opinion on them doesn’t count for a hill of beans, I guess.

For position players, offense is still far more important than defense, as run prevention is mostly the responsibility of the pitcher. Of course defense is important, but not nearly as much as offense (for example, a guy that can’t hit a lick will rarely be a starter no matter how good his defense, but many players that can mash will start despite not being able to play any defense), as a package there are a number of viable 2B candidates in the NL this year….some of which have been clearly better than Phillips.

Would you expect a comment any different from that of a used car saleman like Bud. Both Bud and LaRusso are maniacal, selfabsorbed, egositical twits. Bud knows that Tony bent the Reds over by not naming Cueto or Phillips to the ASG. To try to cover his azz, LaRusso, who has always phantomed himself as being smarter than anyone else, threw a rue in by selecting Bruce who had to ASG credentials. LaRusso may be a good manager but as a human being, he is a repulsive, annoying and is a self righteous troll. That’s my story and I am sticking to it.

I do it because when someone disagrees with with me and who does not follow or watch him play always tosses out a metric to try and show he is not that good when I just watched him make a play where stopped a ball and started a double play by flipping the ball between his legs to the shortstop.or other amazing plays he has made that are sportscenter highlights in addition to the routine plays he makes.

I wish someone would do an anonymous survey of players about why they didn’t vote for him. I think Reds fans would be surprised, because it has nothing to do with stats or on field performance (except his performance of Dominican jiu jitsu). The fact is that his fellow players don’t like him any more than LaRussa does.

For what it’s worth, the metrics (UZR, anyway) show Phillips to be an outstanding fielder. I am not sure why you would attack sabermetrics here. Then again, you do have some odd views on things. I guess that’s about par for the course.

Plus if you focus your complaints on Bud you are just doing what the owners want you to do and what the current version of the position is designed for…..to deflect criticism to a figure head that is not attached to a particular team. The commissioner is the messenger to be shot. He actually doesn’t make many decisions, he just announces them and “owns” them so that owners don’t have to….you know why Bud has had the job for so long and is paid so well?

Because he does exactly what the owners (who hired and pay him) want him to do….he absorbs all the blame and never ever directs it toward the owners.

Let’s see, Commissioner Bud is ok with what Ladummy did. The All-star game decides home field advantage in the World Series but yet the best players aren’t there. As long as the fans vote, the all-star game should be nothing more than an exhibition. Brandon Belt finished second to Joey Votto-need I say more?
