I’m a Giants fan but they are super frustrating to watch. Today, blowing a 5-1 lead to a good Nationals team because our offense lacks hitting power and Affeldt horrible pitching. Pretty obvious issues for the Giants.

I hope the best for Freddy Sanchez. Thanks for the 2010 memories!

The real mistake will be if they sign Lincecum at near market value after the 2013 season. Even if he turns things around I will always have August of 2010 and the first half of 2012 in the back of my mind.

The risk/reward is too high for the Giants to be a bidder on Lincecum past 2013 unless he wants to give a healthy “hometown” discount.

Giants did a decent job with Lincecum. He was guaranteed to be making 18 million plus this year no matter what. The team didn’t dip into a single free agent year. They got his best seasons, and championship season, for peanuts and they never signed him for more than a 2 year commitment.

Your basically including him because the number is high. You have to look a little deeper at what could have been. Tim’s salary this year is slightly higher than the low arbitration figure. It’s the players job to not fall off the face of the earth.

Freddy came thru when needed in 2010 and honestly I hope he feels bad and signs a minor league deal to make up for the free money .

IMHO you can’t count that Lincecum money as bad money; the dude produced far above his contract value every year in the bigs until this one. Anyone saying they saw him being merely mortal this year is probably not being entirely truthful. But the Rowand, Huff and Zito contracts are the kind of decisions that often get GMs fired.

I guess to me the money paid to Freddy does not seem horribly bad. But then again I am thinking of the $13 million to Rowand this season. The $10 million to Huff, The $18+ million to Zito and the $20+ million to Lincecum.

The Giants have great pitching and I give Sabean credit for that but he often trumps it by handing out bad contracts to and trading youth for older, injury prone position players.
