After they buzzed the Malecón and dropped leaflets the first time, Castro warned those dolts that they’d be shot down if they entered his airspace again. Not only were they stupid enough to go up against a MIG-23 and a Mig-29 in Cesna Skymasters, but they were doubly stupid enough to announce that they planned to go despite being warned that they’d be shot down if they did. I’m not sure whether or not the gene pool was spared further contamination by the DNA for acute recalcitrant idiocy or whether they had spread their seed before committing suicide by MIG. Regardless, the fact that they weren’t grounded by the FAA in the first place was pretty solid evidence that someone in Washington was looking for an excuse to tighten the embargo and perpetuate what was already 46 years of utter foreign policy futility without parallel in the anals (sic) of US diplomacy. And now we have whole streets in Macondo named after these morons.
