This isn’t a team that is legitimately built for success. For him to be seriously considering trading for Greinke, shows a lack of judgement. One pitcher is not going to help this team. You could give them Verlander and they aren’t making the playoffs. The Orioles are already starting to fade. What they should do is ride out the next month, possibly making a small deal or two, and see where they are by the deadline. My bet is that they’ll have fallen back far enough to sell some pieces. Maybe see if they can get something for Hammel, Thome, or some of their bullpen.

The Orioles already added a bat. Right now, they need a better option at third base and help in the rotation. Greinke would fix one of those issues.

The real question is do the Orioles have enough to make the Brewers happy while also not overspending on a rent-a-player? I don’t think they do, which is why someone like Dempster is more likely. However, if they think that they can sign Greinke long-term, it makes giving up that talent much more palatable, and likely.
