Derek Jeter drops a pop up!

It only happens once a decade or so, but Derek Jeter dropped a pop up in the first inning Sunday night, giving the Red Sox an early run.

It couldn’t have been a more routine play for Jeter, and he’s always been one of the game’s best shortstops when it comes to handling flyballs. Typically, Alex Rodriguez defers to him on anything in the air. Starting pitcher Ivan Nova was already halfway to the dugout when Jeter dropped it, and his eyes nearly popped out of his head when he saw the ball hit the ground.

Unfortunately, there’s no clip yet, since it’s an ESPN national game.

The error was Jeter’s eighth of the year.

    Nova’s reaction was priceless.

Reports out of Boston are also saying that before the game Jeter had a sandwich in the clubhouse and drank some Gatorade after taking BP. C’mon man. Making an error is news? Yawn……nothing to see here.

I’m searching for more stuff to post… did you happen to hear what kind of sandwich it was?

      • mybrunoblog - Jul 8, 2012 at 10:57 PM

        Touche.
That said bro your right. Not much news today. Only 15 games being played today and this being the last day before the All Star break.
Some of those “(insert players name)at the break” stories are always good.

even though all the clowns are voting you down you are 100% correct

I assume the error was credited to Darnell McDonald.

Perhaps Jeter got confused and actually used one of his Gold Gloves for the game.

I so hope it was a chicken sandwich.

Yawn. He also went 3-5 and scored a run.

I did laugh a little at the thought that Jeter is so good that dropping a first inning fly ball in July makes the news. Dude is awesome.

You must be a blast at parties.

He’s likely a blast the way dysentery is a blast.

He’ll still win a gold glove this year.

Eh, Not as painful as Luis Castillo’s drop…

I liked that Nova came right back and got the next out- a young pitcher could have fallen apart there. On another note, Jeter had the ball removed from the game and destroyed, so that it couldn’t be accidently signed and put in a gift basket.

” Only 15 games being played today”, as opposed to what? Ok, maybe there would be a double-header here or there, but most days where everybody is in action there will ONLY be 15 games played that day.

No wonder we are falling so far behind the rest of the world in math and science.
