Dustin Pedroia was placed on the disabled list with a hyperextended right thumb and according to Rob Bradford of WEEI.com the former MVP received second and third opinions from doctors who confirmed the initial diagnosis.

Pedroia is currently wearing a cast on his hand, but made a big deal about what a quick healer he’s always been and told reporters he expects to be back in the Red Sox’s lineup in “a few weeks.”

Of course, prior to suffering the new thumb injury Pedroia had been playing through a partially torn muscle in the same thumb since May and his production declined significantly, so he may want to take a little extra time off to make sure he’s healed before returning at less than full strength again.

Must be a quick healer -

in 2010 he played in 75 games and didn’t play in 87
in 2012 he played in 74 games and didn’t play in 88

maybe he’s not so quick to heal. After all he is getting older. One can admire the spirit.
Or one can be reminded about how his rushing back to play (after quickly ‘healing’) last year worked out for him.

    Short man complex.

He’s got the spirit and shows such effort that the Red Sox need him to play…when he’s healthy. Everyone who isn’t dead is getting older. It’s not like he’s Jeter’s age. While it’s been extremely frustrating to be a Red Sox fan again this season,I’m more than pleased by the quality of the kids they’ve called up.The future looks good, the present, not so much.

All this guy does is talk about his injuries. You don’t see real ballplayers holding daily chats with the press to discuss every epsiode of athlete’s foot, jock itch and hangnail. Just shut up and act like a real ball player.

      “Just shut up”

Pot. Kettle. Black. He gets asked questions, fool.

Oh your right tool – he is the only MLB player to be asked about his injuries and that is why we get a paragraph a day from him on the subject. Imagine if they asked others!

At least he’s not crying about something like Miss Papi.
