Hanley Ramirez suffers cut hand hitting electric fan

Hanley Ramirez

Hanley Ramirez left Sunday’s game against the Cardinals with a cut on his finger, the result of him hitting a fan in the dugout.

“Very stupid injury,” manager Ozzie Guillen said. “Very immature. … You make an out, you hit something and you injure it, you don’t just hurt yourself, you hurt the ballclub.”

Ramirez received two stitches near the knuckle of his ring finger after hitting the fan. He expects to play Friday when play resumes after the All-Star break.

Ramirez injured himself after grounding out in the sixth inning with the Marlins down 2-1. Miami later took a 4-2 lead, but the Cardinals went on to win 5-4 after coming back off Heath Bell in the bottom of the the ninth.

Nick Hagadone of the Indians did the same thing, it was an “off-field” inury, but more or less the same thing, now he is done for the rest of the season. Players need to be smarter than that. Use the bat, and take it out on that. Perhaps Carlos Zambrano was onto something the entire time?

    Heath Bell blew another one???

I don’t think I have ever been more comfortable being behind in the ninth inning than when Heath Bell is brought in to close out the game. Not sure what he’s getting caught up in down in Miami, or maybe he just misses the lax attitude of San Diego living, but he is not the same person he used to be.

You must not have much experience with a Mr. Armando Benitez.

Bell’s curveball is no longer an effective pitch. In 2010, opponents batted .141 against his curveball and last year they batted .282. This season is more of the same.

Heath Bell is fat and out of shape. It might help his delivery a bit if he dumped about 50 pounds and reconditioned himself.

Exactly. It was hot today here in StL, but he was sweating like Dan Quayle at a spelling bee.

        Oooooo, that’s cold.

He should change his training regiment from the Playstation to the Wii.

      • Old Gator - Jul 9, 2012 at 9:31 AM

He should get his fat ass on a treadmill, stationary bike, multi-task weight machine, swim 50 laps a day and cut out simple carbohydrates and saturated fats from his diet is what he should do. And he should get himself a personal trainer with big tits clad in gossamer spandex so he’ll be more likely to pay attention to what the hell she tells him to do.

Said Zambrano: “How many times have I told that kid: Use a baseball bat. It’s more damage and more fun!”
