Not saying you are wrong – but also not saying you are right. The Nats are a house of cards – they are the ’01 Phillies, and they have a huge downside. Cliff Lee improving, Halladay Utley and Howard back, there is a ton of upside potential. Will they win the division – probably not, but I would also say there has never been a team in this much of a hole with a better shot in the past 50 years.

Listen man, I am a big of Phillies fanboy as anybody…..but the notion of “nobody running away with the NL East is bogus”. The Nationals have already run away from the Phillies. They are 15 games back. I repeat, they are 15 games back. Also, the are 10 games out of the wild card. Yes, I fully expect them to play better after the ASB, but the hole has been dug. The song has been sung.

relax, its not just shane, its the whole damn team.. theyre sucking badly becuz theyve been slammed wit injuries and of course it hasnt been fun playing much less watching a phils game this year but i dont write them off. . simply becuz of A.) theyre getting healthier we already got Howard and Chutley back, B.) next up Doc halladay will be back.. C.) the allstar break gives em time to lick their wounds and put the first half behind em and D.) NOBODY is running away with the NL east.. the phils are still dangerous and wont go out without a fight, even if they dont win the division the addition of a second wild card will only make them hungrier for this second half, this is where i believe the phillies will earn the nickname the Fightin Phils as they chip their way back into relevance..

From Wiki – Victorino is of Portuguese, Hawaiian, Japanese, and Chinese descent. His last name is Portuguese and was originally spelled with an ‘e’ at the end. In an interview with The Philadelphia Inquirer in 2011, he explained “My name is really Victorine, which is Portuguese. My great-, great-grandpa, when he was in the war, they spelled his name with an O at the end instead of an E, and it became Victorino.”

Vic’s having a frustrating season because the hand injury that he had was tearing him up when he swung the bat and he fell into some bad habits with his mechanics. Regardless, he’ll be gone soon from Philly.

I love how people are saying Victorino’s attitude is horrible and he threw a tantrum. He’s done so much good for the Phillies and the city of Philadelphia. He opened a boys and girls club last year, but I’m sure no one will talk about that or the good he does. He’s definitely having a bad year like the Phillies as a team are, but that’s no reason to attack someone’s character, especially idiot reporters assumptions. Than they retract the statement after they find the truth out. They’re human beings just like all of us are first an foremost. No one’s perfect.

I can see how Victorino could be thought of as Italian.

Yes, because contenders are apt to trade good, cheap, young bullpen arms. I mean, are you generally familiar with the goings on around the trade deadline….typically it is the contenders looking go acquire bullpen arms not give them up for platoon players.

They should call up Brown though and give him games the rest of the season no matter what. Time to see if he can reach his potential on the big stage. For all the talk of his poor defense, I find it hard to believe he would be any worse in the OF than Pence has been this year.

That depends….this season is lost. Trading for bullpen help that they do not have control of beyond this year would be categorically foolish. Furthermore, who is going to trade a good, young bullpen arm to rent a platoon player for half a year?

People love to talk about character…well, the time you find out the most about a person’s character is when they are presented with a challenge; it is easy to act humble/generous when things are going well. Responses like this one and that from Posada last year just show you how huge the egos are in a MLB clubhouse. I don’t think that either of those guys are among the most egotistical players in the league…but when you’ve been a starter and all-star on a winning team…that fall is pretty tough on the ego.

Shane’s head has been elsewhere all season. He’s not what you’d call a cerebral player, and he gives you some horrible at bats. Now that they have another knucklehead with a low baseball IQ in the lineup (Pence), it’s impossible to string together many rallies. Time for Shane to move on. He had some great moments over the years and was great in the 2008 playoffs, but to me he has been the poster child for the underachieving 2012 Phillies.

Yep….say what you will about ‘bicepts but he called this along time ago. The guy needs to go. As I have mentioned numerous times before, he is nothing more than a platoon player at this point. RAJ needs to see if he can fleece a team out of a prospect or two.
