The thing is, FC, Doc was 23 and only (I believe) in his second full season in MLB. Lincecum is 28 and has two Cy Young awards. The situations aren’t very similar.

it’s painful to see Timmy like this. hmmm…all he and the Giants can do is keep going to the mound, don’t trade him, etc…assuming he is not hurt…hopefully he can rebound…we will see.

Keep in mind that it was Timmay who has insisted on going almost year to year. The Giants very much wanted him to sign a 3+ year deal until now.

Count me as another spectator waiting for an “injury” that requires some down time for Timmy. It’s possible that he just has the “yips” or “dead arm” or any number of made up baseball injuries.

Are we sure there is no injury? Is it possible there is some underlying medical issue the Giants aren’t talking about? Didn’t he indicate some kind of elbow soreness/elbow problem in spring training? It’s just such an abrupt ending to an elite career that I continue to believe that some kind of underlying medical issue may exist that isn’t public knowledge.

Or maybe he’s just washed up. Who knows?

No, this is truly just what the Pirates do to teams right now. They’ve scored double-digits in 4 of the past 12, and 7+ runs in 10 of the last 22. They are just going out and crushing starting pitchers.

Andrew McCutchen is on fire. Look at his numbers: June – BA .370, OPS 1.096, 40 hits, 26 RBI. July – BA .500, OPS 1.288. He’s got 36 RBI since June 1.

Quit making excuses. He’s been “hammered” by MLB except the Dodgers who put up soccer scores. It’s gone right now. He’s like a once awesome engine that lost a few cylinders. He needs to go in the shop during the off season for a complete rebuild.
I think the only thing the Giants CAN do is move him to the pen.

Could be that Lincecum just got hammered by the highest scoring team in baseball since June 1, and the team with the best record in baseball since May 12 – the Pirates.

Lincecum has the abilities. His confidence is shot. He needs to be helped. As another commenter mentioned, other pitchers have speed bumps along the way, and pitch their way out of it. Zito in the off season got help from well known pitching coach Tom House, and it has helped him remain cool in tough situations. It might be a good idea to get him some help on his off days, or skip him once on the rotation, but he needs to work it out. Almost all pitchers lose velocity, so they have to adapt. Obviously, A.J. Burnett is an example that it can be done. Rick

He’s not going anywhere. If he was on a year by year contract he would be non-tendered next year. Serious doubts the Giants could get something that would make eating his salary for another team worth it. You would have to account for 7 million more than AJ Burnett was owed. The Giants did well to keep the commitment to 2 years and no FA years.

They would be selling at the lowest possible point though. Any team trading for him would be taking a gigantic gamble. I haven’t seen him pitch this season. Anybody out there that has, what is going on with him? Is it velocity? Command? Both? Furthermore, what pitches has he been getting hit on?
