Nope. If Padilla wasn’t hitting people the way he was then pitchers wouldn’t have been seeking retaliation against Tex and the rest of the Texas hitters. If you were a Rangers’ player back then and Padilla decided to go out and hit Manny Ramirez or someone – you knew that the pitcher on the other team was compelled to hit you – they didn’t start it, but the “unwritten rules” dictated a response.

Vicente Padilla isn’t a starter this season, so the absence/presence of the DH has nothing to do with it. Relievers don’t hit in either league.

Really??? You don’t recall Tino being held back by O’Neill or going on the DL after getting hit? He was asked about it everyday!!! They even tried to pass a rule that the pitcher should be penalized for as many games as the player he hit had to miss.

You should try watching the game, or finding back up sometime.

Tough it out? That’s almost funny. Would you even get into the box against a moron standing 60′ 6″ from you and throwing an object that could end your season, or career. My guess is that any of us would be bailing out on a 79 mph much less a 95 mph fastball (if we got in the box at all).
As for the just hit more HR’s: a batter that gets a hit ( not to mention an HR ) 30% of the time, makes the Hall of Fame, so who has the advantage, the hitter or the pitcher? Let’s get real.

The NFL just penalized a team for putting a bounty on hitting players covered in equipment. What do you think a fastball against nothing but skin and bone feels like?

I think I just witnessed one of the most culturally and historically oblivious quips in the history of the internet. Then again, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, Yankees fans have been issuing statements like the one above for years then sprinting to hide behind the trophies their demigods have won.

ProTip: It’s the internet. If you are unsure about what you are about to state, at least make the attempt to do some research and either confirm or correct your thoughts.

ProTip #2: when you make that (failed) attempt to research, it’s helpful if you cite your sources. Particularly when you cut and paste passages from those sources as if you wrote it yourself. And especially if you are cutting and pasting from Wikipedia (see “Early Life”) to support a specious statement.

OK, so . . . implying that Mark Teixeira is “Latino” because his nickname is “Tex” and he has grandparents from Guyana is like saying that he’s Latino because he was born in Maryland. “Tex”, incidentally was, in fact, born in Maryland and he apparently does have grandparents from Guyana (at least that’s what it says on Wikipedia).

However, Guyana is not, nor has it ever been, a Latino country. For one, it’s an English speaking country. For two, before it was an English speaking country it was inhabited by Native American tribes.

And being of Portuguese descent in no way shape or form is the same as being “Latino”. You might as well claim that he is Asian. Either would be equally wrong.

From all that is available on the internet, the best we can assume is that Mark Teixeira is of Caucasian European ancestry.

As for whether or not Tex is correct in his assessment of Vicente Padilla? Perhaps. But what I do know for sure is, the Red Sox ended up with the better Firstbaseman (even taking A-Gonz horrendous 1st half into account).

With all due respect, you have no idea whether there are “legitimate beefs” or not. I don’t either, but it’s unreasonable and unfair just to take Padilla’s word for it.

Teixeira’s played with a lot of Latinos. Let’s wait to hear from someone other than Padilla and Francisco – not exactly MLB’s two most upstanding citizens – before we rush to judgment.
