besides the figgins deal I feel like his deals weren’t bad at the time, they just turned out that way. To get players like Bedard was on the O’s u gotta trade away PROSPECTS. They turn out to be good major league players than awesome but if u keep them and they don’t, your criticized. Nature of the beast.

What I am saying is that any package with less certainty than a Stras+Harp would be PR suicide for JZ, but any package that good would not be coming along anytime soon.

Exactly what is it you think that the Yankees have left to trade? They have just about zero position player prospects above A+ and all these over-hyped Yankees pitching prospects (the so-called “Killer Bee’s”) wouldn’t even net you a a middle reliever let alone King Felix.

Although I will admit that Zduriencik was dumb enough once to trade you a #2 starting pitcher for a RH platoon DH (in Safeco no less) so I guess anything is possible.

Y’all have winning records and shots at playoffs and whatnot. Let us have this. You will be fine without him, and he is what makes being a mariner fan bearable right now. Felix pitching. Brendan Ryan’s defense. Two things that are always fun to watch. (I just close my eyes when Ryan comes up to bat)

Well when the Brewers acquired CC Sabathia a few years back he said it constantly how much he loved Milwaukee and how badly he wanted to stay in Milwaukee no matter what. Brewers extended a huge offer to keep him and CC bolted for the Yankees for… *drumroll* an extra 3 million dollars more over a 5 year period. Don’t believe anything a pro says.

Ah gotcha. However, look at the actual trades that have gone through recently. How many of those minor leaguers actually panned out? It almost seems like it’s better to be one of the last team’s involved in the trade, where the trading team has to accept you won’t get six A+ blue chip prospects, and makes a deal for what you can get.

Like the proposed Santana/Yanks trade a few years back. Rumor was the Twins wanted Joba + Montero + Hughes and one other I think. They ended up getting far less.

Based on Zdurencik’s track record, I wouldn’t want him trading Felix either. Under him, the Mariners are on track to put up the worst 3 year period of offensive futility in baseball history. With no end in sight.

perhaps, but Montero and Noesi still could possibly turn it around, too, and there’s always a chance that Pineda won’t bounce back from the injury. I can see how you could say that the Yankees are ahead right now, but it’s far from a clear win for either side.

Nope… Keep King Felix. We tried the bs “trade talent to get talent” and it has never repeat never worked. Keep Felix – we’ve got great pitching prospects… We need offense. If we can make it to the huge TV deal, we can then have the scratch to go and get real talent, however, with his track record, I’m not sure Jack Z is the man for the job. Add to that an owner who doesn’t give a crap about the game, and you can see the Seattle dillemma.

Even if Pineda never regains form, Montero & Noesi have been horrible. The handful of wins Campos has gotten in A ball is a fair trade right now.

Pineda + Campos = a winner down the road.

It just means he’s thinking with his heart rather than his head. Felix is only under contract for two more years and Seattle has years worth of rebuilding to do. Trading Felix now, when his value will never be higher, is the tough business decision the Mariners need to make if they hope to get batter any time soon.

My point is exactly what you are all saying. Sox fans are obssessed with Hernandez, just as they were with A-Gone for a while, and think that the most mediocre packages will get it done. They’re ALWAYS coming up with “ideal” packages on Radio…even some of the beat writers are starting to do so.

A fair trade for King Felix starts with Lester AND Ellsbury. It would either Lavarnway or Middlebrooks and Barnes or Bradley. So, would you trade Lester, Ellsbury, Middlebrooks and Barnes for Felix Hernandez? I am not even sure thats enough…

Ells and Buccholz won’t get it done. With the season he is having, no one wants Clay anyways.

I would guess that any Hernandez trade would have to involve Matt Barnes and Jackie Bradley for prospects. Then, they would also need some elite MLB talent. That would mean Ellsbury. It also wouldn’t shock me if they had to include one of: Middlebrooks, Doubront, Lavarnway.

Such a trade would cripple the Sox farm system. And plus, I’m still not sure Seattle does it. There is a chance Barnes will become a great pro pitcher, but he still doesn’t project to King Felix status. And by every indication Zduriencik wants someone comparable if he is to make any move at all.

Sox fans need to give up on Felix as the next Pedro-esque savior.

Let’s see – the Mariners gave up Adam Jones and Chris Tillman, along with two other prospects, for Erik Bedard. At the time, both Jones and Tillman were considered home run prospects and the prizes for the Orioles in the trade. Do you really think that Buchholz and Ellsbury would be fair market value for Felix? Or do you just like dreaming up fantasy trades like this where your team doesn’t have to give up the world for an ace like Felix?

As the singer Meatloaf once sang “Two out 3 ain’t bad”. 1 Great City, Seattle. 2 Great Pitcher, King Felix. Unfortunately #3 is a really miserable baseball team.
By the time Felix is a FA assuming he does become one for the 2015 season he is going to have over 2,000 innings on that arm. He will have pitched between 190 and 250 innings in 9 consecutive years. And while he will still be young only 29 for the 2015 season that’s a lot of wear and tear on a pitcher.
By comparison Hamels who will be a FA at the end of this season and will turn 29 as well when he is a FA will only have about 1,400 innings on his arm.
That 600 extra innings that will be on Felix’s arm equates to about 3 extra seasons of work for Felix Hernandez.
IF Hernandez goes and where that might be no one knows, but as Sean Connery once said never say never.
