I’ve got no issues if they include him in a deal for more than a rental, if that’s the case – fire away if an benificial scenario presents itself.

If not, hold onto him and see if he can get it figured out.

Well, you won’t get anything for Skip, Greene, or Descalso….they are all really bench guys/platoon players at best. Carpenter, they might be able to get something for…but probably not anyone that represents a true upgrade on the mound. Starting pitching is expensive…you won’t get it without paying a lot in prospects/dollars or both.

I don’t get why we’re so adamant about not trading ANY MLB-level players. We have three second basemen and Matt Carpenter, who could start at 3B for any number of teams instead of sitting on our bench every day.

That said, Miller won’t be traded. The Cards might be willing to move him, but only for a very good SP that probably no team is willing to give for a guy who’s struggled this year in AAA.

Wandy Rodriguez AND Brett Myers for Shelby Miller. Sky is the limit for that kid. Plus Jeff Luhnow is buddy buddy with the boys in St. Louis.

I agree with you 1389, however, the cards cannot be allowed to get a guy like Hamels because that would almost insure that the birds would dominate the central for a few years to come. I have heard about Miller, and the Reds have done similar things like trade a great prospect for a guy who can win now (maybe). But it doesn’t always work that way, and if the trade is made for Hamels it may not work out as planned. The Reds gave up Josh Hamilton for Volquez. How did that work out?

I feel like there is a log jam when it comes to our position players, and trading a top pitching prospect when our problem is pitching does not seem like a good move. Even though they are awesome players and Id hate to see any of them go, we have 4 first basemen in Berkman, Craig, and Carpenter and Adams. Maybe trading one of them for a pitcher would be a better short term fix for our squad.

To me, it is a strange thing to do/announce. It isn’t like the NL Central is in danger of having a dominant team take over any time soon. The team with the best combination of system and resources right now is StL…so it isn’t like the division is going to get harder to win (or the playoffs harder to make) in the foreseeable future. Decreasing the chances of making the playoffs for multiple future years in exchange for a possible increase in the chance to make it this year seems silly.

The kid is only 21 and has been rushed into Triple A. The PCL is known as a hitters league It is hard on young pitchers. Too soon to give up on him.

I agree. Lohse if fine, keeps the ball down, doesn’t walk anyone…when he has been healthy, he’s been an effective pitcher for them.

The ONLY way you do it is if you can get Hammels from Philly with the guarantee of a long term deal being signed.

Pair he and Wainright with Garcia, Lynn, and possibly Martinez in a couple years, you have the makings of a young dominant pitching staff.

I’d have no problems trading a possible future ace for a young proven one

I agree.

I’d hate to see it, unless they get a nearly as exciting MLB-ready pitcher in return and can have him around for multiple years. I also hated the Wallace trade, and the Haren trade, and the Rasmus trade…..the Haren trade still pisses me off…the Rasmus trade won’t piss me off even if he becomes a perennial AS, that one gets a pass because of the 2011 run through the WS….and Rasmus is starting to look like the guy from early 2010 again.

I guess it comes down to the fact that I would prefer it if the Cardinals could draft and develop their own stars rather than trading for/signing them…..but…in the end, I guess it doesn’t matter where they come from…as long as you got ‘em….but I’d love to see a team that fields Miller, Martinez, Rosenthal, Jenkins, Wong, Cox, Craig, Jay, Taveras, and Adams all at the same time….I know it won’t happen, but it would be cool.

Miller is 21 yrs old and the Cardinals will have multiple rotation spots to fill next year (Lohse’s and Westbrook’s deals end and Carpenter may be done for good). I won’t mind if they trade him, but if it is for a 3 month rental, that’ll be pretty stupid.

Other things that can help you overcome the Pirates, just waiting for the sample size to catch up to the Pirates true performance. They won’t be in 1st place in September if they still have a .300 OBP.

I would think, if they did decide to trade for Miller. They would have to receive a pitcher that is both fairly young and has had no health issues to this point.
