Memories of a few years ago, when the Giants were playing the Padres in a night game. The ball was hit in a high, high pop-up that went well above the lights. The catcher walked forward a step or two, the pitcher came in, and ball dropped mid-way between them. In the meantime, the batter was comfortably standing on first base.

Moral? Run out the contact with the ball, as surprising things might happen.

Great move by Harper–it set the tone for the second half of the Nats’ season quite nicely.

Both Reyes and Ramirez have been playing like guys who have gotten their big paydays and are now phoning it in. Reyes’s deal in particular is going to end up making what the Nats gave to Jason Werth look like a cheap bargain.

Wow. Where are the first boo birds on this one? Despite the public villication of the kid since he was 16, he has done nothing but play smart, heads up baseball since he got to the majors while keeping his mouth pretty much shut. I cannot blame a guy because a n answer to a reporter ends up on a tshirt.
