It’s getting banned because it is more of a balk than most of the things that currently qualify for a balk already. It deceives the runner as an exception to the balk rule for no good reason, so it’s a legal balk.

I don’t care if it only works 1 out of 10,000 times. I know it’s not possible, but I’d like to see the percentages on players picked off 1st per attempt vs. the percentage of outs recorded on the fake-to-third-throw-to-first move.

He used to do it all the time hence the nickname. And I was there today, he didnt catch cano napping cano was going and as soon as he realized he was getting picked off he stopped. A couple mistakes happened on the play. Cano had a shot at second as the 2b was out of position when the ss took the throw but he elected to go back to first and arod went at the worst possible time, after thr tag had occurred. Arod shouldve either stayed at 3b OR shouldve taken off as the tag was being attempted. Arods a great baserunner but a couple times this year hes been a little slow on his jumps getting thrown out at home in a game a few weeks back.

My unofficial count only has that happening two or three times a year, but to me makes it more impressive that Weaver pulled the trigger when he had the chance.

It works how it is supposed to. It keeps the runner on third close, the runner on first has to wait an extra split second to steal, and the batter may show his hand in whether he is bunting or not.

You don’t have to get an out to consider pickoff throws successful. Why is this move different?
