Ozzie Guillen has it out with Bryce Harper over pine tar

Since Pine Tar Incident is already taken, I’m not quite sure what to call this one. The Pine Tar Episode? The Pine Tar Happening?

Miami manager Ozzie Guillen sent multiple F-bombs Bryce Harper‘s way during the fourth inning of Sunday’s Nationals-Marlins game. Nationals manager Davey Johnson said afterwards that Guillen was calling out Harper for having too much pine tar on his bat and trying to intimidate the 19-year-old.

“It got on the umpire’s nerves and it got on my nerves,” Johnson said of Guillen’s profanity. “He was trying to intimidate my player.”

Guillen called Harper “unprofessional” after the game, adding: “I was just telling him how cute he was,” according to Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post.

Harper refused to take the bait, saying simply that Guillen was a “great manager,” CSNWashington’s Mark Zuckerman reports.

The Nats Enquirer has a nice rundown of the proceedings, along with screenshots.

It cracks me up how a 19 year old can yank guillen’s chain that easily…If I were Harper, and I’m not a fan of his but I would yank his chain every chance I got LOL guillen is such a tool!

    • canoyoulie - Jul 15, 2012 at 11:25 PM

      yank that chain harper!

  2. lreadl - Jul 15, 2012 at 8:32 PM

What I don’t get is how anybody knows what Ozzie said. I’m a Sox fan and watched him for years, but I never could and still can’t understand a word he says.

    • pellypell - Jul 16, 2012 at 9:55 AM

My understanding of what Guillen is saying is based on my years and years of repeatedly watching Tony Montana in Scarface.

“He hat pine tar on hees bat, mang. Jew don’t put pine tar on yew bat, eatz bad for business”

    • agrippamom - Jul 16, 2012 at 12:52 PM

      I could read his lips.

  3. thatyankeedude - Jul 15, 2012 at 8:39 PM

Ya cause Harper plays such unprofessional baseball, taking extra bases, hustling on every play, making things happen for his team. Harper doesn’t belong in the Bigs because he actually plays baseball the way it’s supposed to be played

    • saulacevedo13 - Jul 16, 2012 at 5:39 AM

thats what baseball is all about

  4. kooolo - Jul 15, 2012 at 10:08 PM

Bottom line, Ozzie is an embarrasment to his team. He was with with Chicago and now Miami. He’s all done after this year. Perhaps he can coach a team in Cuba next year…..

  5. fuddpucker - Jul 15, 2012 at 10:19 PM

Even though he’s going to get fired soon, we need Ozzie in baseball.

    • kooolo - Jul 15, 2012 at 10:25 PM

      WHY?

      • fuddpucker - Jul 15, 2012 at 10:28 PM

He’s a colorful character, he’s speaks his mind and wears his heart on his sleeve. Plus, there’s not a lot of guys who are fun in baseball and Ozzie is fun.

      • kooolo - Jul 15, 2012 at 10:32 PM

He may be colorful, but he’s ineffective. It seems obvious that he doesn’t have his team’s respect. Too much talent on this team to be so bad. Less colorful managers do a much better job. Ozzie just looks for attention. He’s lost his team.

  6. fuddpucker - Jul 15, 2012 at 10:24 PM

    OZZY!! OZZY!!

    Oh wait, wrong douchbag.

  7. heathater4lifeson - Jul 15, 2012 at 10:24 PM

”I was just telling him how cute he was” are those pro-gay rights comments? Not very Ozzie-like

  8. canoyoulie - Jul 15, 2012 at 11:24 PM

not even a bryce harper fan cuz of his cockiness but … yank that ozzie chain! you got the best of a guy struggling to save his team.

  9. philliephaninva - Jul 15, 2012 at 11:30 PM

Ozzie Guillen is a true idiot in every sense of the word.

  10. humanexcrement - Jul 15, 2012 at 11:54 PM

Now THERE’S a match made in heaven. It’s like having two dudes you can’t stand get in a fistfight with each other. No matter who wins, at least one of them is going to get their ass kicked.

  11. lostsok - Jul 16, 2012 at 1:55 AM

Ozzie got schooled by a kid. Hilarious.

  12. bbk1000 - Jul 16, 2012 at 7:03 AM

Ozzie is still ticked off at Harper because he stole third base while the Marlins infield were huddling on the mound without a time out….

  13. joewilliesshnoz - Jul 16, 2012 at 7:29 AM

Ozzie is one of the best characters MLB has had in a long time, enjoy it while it lasts !

  14. jl9830 - Jul 16, 2012 at 9:35 AM

I love that Harper still, after everything, always comes out of every situation looking like the mature one. Good for him.

  15. bjtmeyer - Jul 16, 2012 at 9:47 AM

    That’s a clown manager bro!

    • nbjays - Jul 16, 2012 at 1:33 PM

    mike trout is better

    • Cris E - Jul 16, 2012 at 4:17 PM

Debatable but irrelevant. See, this thread isn’t about Trout. He wasn’t there and so we don’t talk about him right now. It’s a manners thing.

  17. contender123 - Jul 16, 2012 at 12:16 PM

im in Fort Lauderdale and work in Palm Beach Ozzie thinks he is God Almighty, all he is, is a low class pos ! Both counties refuse to go to litlle havana in shit town Miami, see what the attendance is. Ozzie is a Big Mouth !

  18. jonahfalcon - Jul 16, 2012 at 12:25 PM

If there was no baseball, Guillen would have been found dead in some Venezuelan ditch with a machete sticking out of his head.

  19. mikecubbie69 - Jul 16, 2012 at 12:35 PM

He shouldve had Zambrano hit the punk is the butt like Hamels did! That wouldve been more subtle.

  20. agrippamom - Jul 16, 2012 at 12:58 PM

Ozzie cursing at a 19 year old for what? Pine tar? The bat looked fine to me, and EVERYONE else who looked at it.

Ozzie was simply showing what a big a*****e he is. All he did was act like a baby, and the 19 year old showed he’s a man.

There are already rumors they might hit Harper with a ball tonight. If so, Bud Selig, I hope you punish these guys GOOD. It would be all too obvious at this point just what they’re up to.

  21. fullbagg - Jul 16, 2012 at 2:10 PM

This guy has won. THE only reason this is put up with. Maybe he loves Hitler too.

The Harper situation is just another example of ozzie being a blow hard.

I used to hear sooo much on Harper being a punk. He has been a model citizen here.

When the “Old School” punk hit him, he stole home..

If they throw at him, shows the last place mentality they have. They need to win a series.

  22. mlblogsstevo - Jul 16, 2012 at 3:54 PM

I see that there a QUITE a few idiots out there today. Let’s face the facts:

1)the Marlins and the Phillies and their HUGE payrolls have ‘not realized their potentail’ thus far in the season. Good luck in the 2nd half.

2)Ozzie is an impulsive hot head idiot that runs his mouth without thinking. 3)Let someone plant a fastball in Ryan Howards spine and then watch the PA National Guard come out to stop the rioting…

    3) Let someone plant a fastball in Ryan Howard’s spine and watch the PA National Guard get called to stop the rioting!

Come on down Phillie fans. It’s about time for another whoopin’!

  23. okcsteve - Jul 16, 2012 at 5:25 PM

    History will absolve Ozzie

  24. peter2112 - Jul 16, 2012 at 9:46 PM

Ozzie Guillen, Bryce Harper, PINETAR ????? Gee, was George Brett in the dugout to force Ozzie to go out and argue or was that refried chili bean burrito he had before the game giving him heartburn and agitated him.
