The news about Santos isn’t a surprise and not because of the rash of injuries these poor bastards have already experienced. All the status updates on his health since he went down just gave off a “won’t get healthy” vibe.

Gregg Zaun on the Jays pre-game show today suggested ChiSox GM Kenny Williams looked a little suspicious for dealing Santos to the Jays. Wouldn’t be the first time Williams could be accused of that (remember the deal he did in 2001 where David Wells was part of a trade to Chicago from Toronto for Mike Sirotka, whose arm was such a mess that he never even threw a pitch in MLB again?). That being said, it calls into question (and Zaun mentioned this) the due diligence on the Jays part, that maybe they were shortsighted on the fact Santos’ delivery and mechanics were ripe for arm issues, plus the fact he was under control contract-wise for a few years. Food for thought.

Isn’t there some empty land around the Rogers Center someplace where they could build an orthopedic hospital? Think of what it would save the Feather Lice in cab fare.
