Do you even know how baseball works? A couple of hits away for the NLCS = a couple of hits away from winning a playoff series. I never said anything about winning the NL West.

The Diamondbacks have had some rough patches, such as when the bulk of the talent on the team retired after the 2001 WS win and then for a few years after one of the best pitchers in baseball had his career abruptly end. Those are the 2 periods of rebuilding they’ve experienced.

If you want to pretend that over the last decade that the Diamondbacks are one of the two teams in baseball with the biggest “high level” problems and that Upton should grovel for the wonderful chance to play with the Skankies, you’re just an idiot, which I am expecting is the case.

If you watch the tourism video of Scranton, PA, it looks like a great place too. Until you find out it is literally collapsing on itself both physically (basically all old buildings) and financially. That’s why it’s called a tourism video

Either way, if I’m a team on this list, i instantly have no interest in him. If he only has 4 teams on that list, you know he’s be……less than excited to go to any of them. Why trade for a guy, who will have a high price, that you know beforehand doesn’t want to be here?

Management that cuts salary post all star break is a rebuilder. A team that goes from top to bottom to top to bottom continually is a rebuilder. A team who trades all stars for bad prospects or lets them walk for nada is a rebuilder…. Haren, Valverde, Hudson (when he was good)….. Wow had to dig for those, a team that can’t develop nor land an All Star in their prime is a rebuilder.

Then again, maybe you are right, they aren’t “rebuilders” they are a case of never going to happen under current ownership.

A couple of hits away in a very weak division isn’t “in”…. maybe…… Before you go touting the Giants, they aren’t weak. The NL West has produced exactly 2 Champions in the 18 year history of their current incarnation. The D-Backs, due to management, are a bad team in a bad division that come “close ” at best.

Hate if you want homer, I’m not a Yankees fan either but their ownership makes a legitimate effort and that’s why their stadium is always full.

I’d agree, the Cubs are probably the only team in MLB with bigger “high level” problems than the D-Backs. The Sox, eh, ok they’ve been lacking cohesion for a few seasons. To go from the D-Backs to the Yankees though, this guy had better be willing to walk cross country barefoot.

I get the not everyone wants to play for the evil empire, wah wah boo hoo… I’m talking going form a perennial rebuilder to a fairly/very well run team.

It depends. Javy Vazquez had a no-trade clause in his contract that basically kept him on the East Coast – that was clearly family related. Other players do indeed use NTCs as leverage.

I was under the impression that the big market teams were on the no-trade list so player and agent could have some leverage in the case of a deal to a team who could afford him (ie “we’ll wave the no trade clause for 10 years, 400 million.”) Any chance that’s true?
