Not for trade reasons. They say it is to recharge his batteries after his heavy workload recently which has seen his velocity drop as well.

Delgado isn’t going anywhere unless it is as a piece to make a big free agent acquisition. I don’t see that happening anyway.

A big problem with all those Padres on the list is that the club is being sold, and it may be that their GM isn’t authorized to make a trade until the new owners can take over. The O’Malley group is still negotiating and has gotten an extension on their exclusive window. The details are apparently so complicated that each item agreement causes other details to unravel (per the San Diego paper).

The sale was supposed to be for the complete package, but the current minority owners own the AAA team separately and are working to sell the Tucson team to El Paso, while the majority owner doesn’t want to include the parking lots adjacent to Petco, but sell them separately. He owns other real estate around Petco, and there’s no word on what happens to that.

The sale might not be completed by the trade deadline, forcing the Padres to stand pat.

Denard Span has been on everyone’s list for how many years? Even with reverting to the old GM in Minnesota, it seems unlikely they’ll finally pull off that premier-prospect-for-Denard-Span deal they seem intent on.

Where’s Ryan Doumit on the list? He’s an ok fielder and doing pretty well at the plate lately. He could be a nice depth acquisition for a team bound for the playoffs.

1) I agree with most of the parts you listed, but don’t see any obvious reason why they’d move Morales, Doubront and especially Atchison. I could see Doubront going to a team (the Cubs for example) as a return on a more proven Starter – but that would be severely out of character for the Red Sox and the way they handle young salary controlled SP’s.

2) The Red Sox are in a rare position of being able . . .

To Sell: They have some surplus major league talent, especially in the OF and could net some nice depth pieces in areas of weakness by dealing an extra part or two. Also if the right buyer came along I don’t think there is any doubt anymore that the Sox would move Beckett.

And To Buy: Everyone knows they are seeking a rotation upgrade, would likely always seek to upgrade a bullpen arm if possible and if the right SS became available I think they would make a move there as well. (again I state this – Iglesias will never be the Red Sox regular everyday SS. Boegarts is well on his way to arriving by 2014 and possibly earlier.)

Also I sell high on:

- Cook. There is zero guarantee he can continue to be reliable in the AL East.
- Nava. He’s been somewhat invaluable and largely an invention of the Red Sox scouting and development. He’s already been something out of nothing . . . now capitalize on that and make it more tangible long term.

The Phillies are not at all far away from contending again. Halladay’s been hurt, is owed $30MM more through the end of 2013, and that is not the kind of message I see the Phillies sending anytime soon.

The only reason Hamels is even being considered is because he’s a FA to be with demands that would likely really screw the Phillies, and they’ve done that to themselves enough lately with Howard, Rollins and, not too far off in the future, Lee.

Pretty sure Ross stays in RF, one of the two remaining will likely end up being traded though. Tough decision there though, neither are super stars, but both have contributed well in the absence of Ells and Crawford.

There’s no team on the planet who’d pick up Crawford’s contract right now, that’s just not going to happen. It’s also why Nava is in consideration for trade, because he’s been playing LF in Crawford’s absence.

According to Ken Rosenthal, he’s basically not available, with good reason. Nobody with half a brain is going to trade your only good shortstop with nobody ready to replace him, so, Lowrie should not be on the list.

Doubt it. Tampa has shown to be more willing to let guys play out their deals and then take the comp picks in the next draft unless they can get a bounty like they did for Garza.

I think the deal they need to try and make is to move Shields. They have Price, Hellickson, Moore and Cobb with Neimann likely to be in the next month. And they still have Chris Archer in the hopper. If not now, Shields and/or Neimann will be moved for prospects this offseason.

Actually, I think they should be very aggressive buyers, especially since there’s such a clear disparity in their talent distribution. If they were a team made up of a bunch of average-ish players, it’d be tough for any one or two players to make a huge difference, but since they have an above-average offense and a woeful pitching staff, the marginal impact of acquiring one or two of the high-caliber starters available is much greater for them. Renting, say, Greinke and Dempster puts Toronto in a much stronger position for one of the WC spots, and seems like a worthwhile pursuit.

I would put Barry Zito up there, he probably isn’t worth noting but the Giants probably eat alot of his contract. I don’t think they would trade Tim Lincecum, he’s a two time cy young award winner in his late 20′s, and the giants community has too much invested in him, I’d say a very high amount of their merchandise revenue comes from Tim. And this being the first year of a two year deal, I would say the Giants don’t feel trapped like the way they do with Zito.

They’re 1 game over 500 and only 1.5 games out of the 2nd wild card….that does not make them total sellers.

It makes them holders – they shouldn’t be buying much, but unless you wow them with a deal, they shouldn’t be selling either.

IF the Yankees decide to get in on Justin Upton, they could move Nick Swisher to a third team looking for a corner outfielder if they’re reasonably comfortable that Gardner will come back. Could also help facilitate things if the Yankees can provide the prospect value that Towers wants, but not the right type.
