I can’t see the Jays trading Escobar. Kelly Johnson is about to become a free agent and Escobar will probably be moved to second base next year.

It’s probably fair to say that the A’s are floating the idea that they may, may, take on a shortstop/3B type as part of a trade package for McCarthy or Colon or Balfour. It’s unlikely they’ll take on a big salary or any long term commitments for marginal improvement. They’d rather have more prospects back from their trades. But as I said earlier today, it’s likely they’ll wait until after this week (6 games against the Rangers and Yankees) and assess where they are before actually pulling the trigger on any deals.
