The Chase Headley market is shrinking!

Jul 17, 2012, 11:05 AM EST

July 5:

CBSSports.com’s Jon Heyman reports that the Diamondbacks, Dodgers, Indians, Orioles, Pirates and at least two other teams have “some level of interest in” Padres third baseman Chase Headley.

Today:

Someone’s out. Or, possibly, all of this trade rumor stuff is an inexact science.

    “That’s Hedley.”

Are you sure it’s not Chase Hedy?

C’mon, it’s 2012 and she’s dead. You can sue her!

. . . which, of course, means that the market for Headley is either holding or growing.

Yeah. That and the inexact science stuff.

I keep hearing “Headley’s value will never be higher”, but the Padres control him for two more years and he’s affordable since Petco suppresses his numbers. He’ll be just as valuable in the offseason and probably as valuable at next year’s trade deadline, due to his low salary. If Josh Byrnes wants to keep his GM job when the new owners come in, he might want to wait to see what THEY want to do with Headley.
