Get the Yankees involved in this deal and we can do another blockbuster! Rosenthal:

The Detroit Tigers have shown interest in Arizona Diamondbacks infielders Stephen Drew and Ryan Roberts, major-league sources told … It’s not clear how advanced the talks are, but sources say there has been dialogue between the clubs on scenarios involving one or both players.

Drew has only played a handful of games since coming back from a broken ankle and the Tigers have a shortstop in Jhonny Peralta who is having a down year (he’s probably the most yo-yoing player in the game, so no surprise), so that seems like a weird matchup, trade-wise. The key here is likely Roberts, who while pretty terrible, is still a second base upgrade for the Tigers. Heck, bringing back Dick McAuliffe would be an upgrade for them and he’s 72 years-old.

Anyway, I don’t get this. Maybe I get it better if we’re sure that Drew is going to be good and healthy and mobile again, but in the meantime, someone please enlighten me.

It is that time of year, when strange rumors are floated. The vast majority of the trade ideas floated by the media do not happen. On the other hand, reporters do get the opportunity to pretend that they are insiders.

Media reports Tigers are interested in 2 players the team has no use for. Tigers fans smash their keyboards in frustration. Trade deadline in full effect.

    Would he still hit .290?

And yes I’m perfectly aware Dick never ever hit .290 in a season for his career. That’s not the point…

Peralta is pretty hot right now .375/.412/.625 1 HR and 5 RBI since the break, hot before it too. Seems you’re right that a 2B would make more sense.

Jhonny to 2b? His range at SS is weak but his hands and arm are good…Roberts at 2b would be Raburn w/tats…and a little speed. Raburn is a NL style player anyways, I bet he goes in a deal…I don’t see what the Snakes need matching w the Tigers prospect strengths…they can have Schlereth back though…yeeesh.
