The Royals sign Jason Kendall for some reason

Jul 19, 2012, 11:29 AM EDT

This is so great:

Kendall last played in the bigs in 2010. It was with the Royals, and he hit .256/.318/.297. Unless you count his 57-game stint with the Cubs in 2007, he was last useful as a major leaguer about six years ago. I don’t know that he was ever a useful defensive catcher.

One can only assume that this signing fulfills the final step in some complex tontine or something which Dayton Moore is administering.

They’re probably going to send Sal Perez down once Kendall is ready so that he blocks him from being up which make as much sense as the Frenchy blocking Mil Wyers situation.
You know because he’s a good club house presence or some other nonsense that really has nothing to do with winning.

Mil Wyers, wow sure wish there was an edit function.

Obviously I was so distraught over this that I forgot how to spell Wil Myers.

In Pittsburgh, at least, he was pretty well regarded as a TERRIBLE clubhouse presence. So, yeah, there is no reason for this.

    Trust the process.

  3. Paul White - Jul 19, 2012 at 11:40 AM

But my 12-year old daughter thinks that Kendall looks like a serial killer. So he has that going for him, which is nice.

He’s probably just going there to do his best Crash Davis, looking for the Annie Savoy of his dreams.

As fun as this may be, what is dumb about signing Kendall as AAA filler? I see no evidence that this is anything more than that.

During last night’s game, the camera panned across the stadium and he was chilling in a luxury box. They talked about how he has been such a fantastic mentor to Salvador Perez and how pitchers used to absolutely love throwing to him.

I wonder what Frank White would have to say?

      • paperlions - Jul 19, 2012 at 1:49 PM

        The truth?

      • mattyflex - Jul 19, 2012 at 1:59 PM

That’s a great question, one we will never know because he’s a T-Bone. And paperlions, I’m still waiting to hear the truth about exactly why he isn’t a part of the baseball community in Kansas City.

You could apply “for some reason” to a lot of the Royals’ front office decisions.

maybe they think hell be able to stop their prospect pitchers from having there arms fall off by talking them onto sleeve tattos

    A tontine worthy of Palpitine.

Craig, is Kendall STILL cashing checks from the Pirates?

  11. donkastain - Jul 19, 2012 at 3:47 PM

They should sign Jamie Moyer, too. See if they can field the oldest battery in history.

For some reason, Craig calcaterra STILL has a job.
