The Yankees looked like they still couldn't believe what was happening to them: three rookie pitchers, only one walk allowed, over 3 games. How do you wear out the starter when they keep throwing strikes and mixing speeds? Hughes was really good also, but the A's are in one of those streaks where a mistake gets crushed. Cespedes hit a centered fastball that left the yard looking more like a TOW missile than a baseball. But Inge's HR was on a much smaller mistake, a matter of a few inches of missed location. Unfortunately for Hughes the error was again towards the center of the plate.

Three straight wins, all by one run. None of us A's fans saw this coming.

And the Yankees once again show what happens when you can't generate offense without hitting a bunch of HRs and are unable to move baserunners along, etc... I can't possibly see how this can come back to bite them in, let's say, a 5 game playoff series. Nope, nothing to see here Please, move along...

"The Big E", eh? Gonna have to see how that looks in the flow of things, I guess. "E5" is so much easier and a tribute to his struggles last season. Well, who cares? Word to your moms he came to hit bombs: ball left the park and another nice car was damaged in what appears to be the Red Sox Player Parking Lot. This time it looked like a BMW took a ball off the fender, courtesy of The Big Easy.

I don't know it the Mighty Beav won this so much as Valentine's use of his bullpen lost the game. Miller was the guy he should have gone to after Cook, but BV decided to get cute with the pitchers looking for matchups and got burned with Albers. Miller was outstanding: has unhittable stuff, great velocity, and eats lefty hitting for breakfast. He's your long reliever unless you plan to lose the game.

The Feesh made a little recent history yesterday, when Krazy Karlos Lamebraino melted down in the fourth inning and allowed four runs without a hit. Yes, that's four - count 'em - as in two hit batsmen, an error, three walks (plus a fourth by reliever Gaudin), two of which came with the bases loaded, and two sacrifices. First time it's been done in a lot of years. Memorable. To his credit, Karlos remained calm during a frank discussion of his shortcomings with the beat reporters afterwards (Kerouac and Cassidy are working for the Feesh now - Scrooge McLoria found out he didn't need to add reanimateds to the group health policy). One of his comments was something to the effect that he needs to do things differently somehow. Tu piensas? He reminded me of a Venezuelan Jose Jimenez. I suppose the Feesh must have Lamebraino on that same powder I give our strange Hemingway hound, Fido, to calm him down before we crate him for his trips to the vet to get his fangs pared.

This is unfortunate, in a way, because the sad sack Rainbow Warriors could definitely use someone smashing a water cooler to smithereens to wake them up. Justin Ruggiano accounted for the Feesh's offense with a solo homer, while his compadres went 0-6 with RISP.

Incidentally, the Bucs went 0-12 with RISP, but they didn't have to hit.

As far as the Jays are concerned, they continue to fight despite the loss of a few key parts. Lawrie returned to action following his failed effort to fly through to air with the greatest of ease. He had 3 RBI's. The slugger now known as THE BIG E rather than e5, tied the game with his 26th dinger. Once Arencibia gave the Jays the lead, the Red Sox pen wilted under the pressure. Villanueva got the win and has pitched well since he was moved from the pen to the rotation. Both Happ and Lyon were successful in their Blue Jay debut.
