Let me revise that a bit … the BBWAA and the Veterans Committee both had numerous opportunities to vote Santo in while he was alive. They chose not to bother to do so until he had died.

How is it that he wasn’t considered qualified while he was alive but suddenly was qualified for the HOF after he passed on? Like I said, jackasses.

The jackasses at the BBWAA had plenty of time to vote Santo in while he was alive. I guess they’ll do the same thing to Pete Rose – put him in after he is in the ground.

McCarver’s best line came years ago when the Memphis Chicks of the Souther League named their ballpark Tim McCarver Memorial Stadium. When asked why the “Memorial”, he said “They named it after my arm”.

In ’89, Sports Illustrated runs an article about Rose betting. He starts lying, saying he never bet on baseball. Not until ’04, when he has a book coming out where he admits to gambling on baseball does he finally come clean (~15 years later). He was also plead guilty to tax evasion.

Why should we give him the benefit of the doubt on anything he says?

There are 4256 reasons to cheer him. As a person that looks for athletes to play well rather than act like good role models, I have no problem at all with a guy that hit the ball better than anyone else in history.

Legend has it that McCarver was quite good and innovative way back when. Now, he’s horrible….spends every broadcast making up stories and trying to convince everyone how smart he is and trying to impress everyone with how many famous people he knows….continuously talking over the action. He sucks.

Worst comment ever. Dude was a stud baseball player. Should be in the hall of fame any day. Yeah he bet on baseball but to me, cheating at baseball is worse than betting. Yet Mark McGuire, Sammy Sosa, Barry Bonds and the other bums who cheated get a shot at getting in. Not fair at all. Now if Rose were caught betting for his team to lose and then did what he could to make them lose, that’s different. That hurts the integrity of the game. But he bet on his team to win and he changed nothing as a manager in order to give them better chances. Yeah a bet is a bet, but lets be realistic here. Would you rather a cheater be inducted?
