Photo of the Day: First pitch Vader

Jul 23, 2012, 11:32 AM EDT

This is the first pitch at yesterday’s Rays-Mariners game. I find the lack of control disturbing:

That’s obviously a gyro-ball. I find your lack of faith disturbing Mr. Calcaterra.

Just because this guy has a much better Vadar costume than you do doesn’t mean you have to bash his control.

By looking at that picture, he was either throwing a screwball (look at that pronation), or he didn’t even “throw” it- he merely tossed the ball up, then Force-pushed it to home plate. Probably a sure-fire way to throw knucklers, using the Force.

Indeed. This is why Dickey is killing it this year…he embraced the Force. Light or dark side? Remains to be seen…

        Met = dark side

Somewhere George Lucas is counting his $ billions thinking “oh man, it was just a movie”

Brewers trade greinke for vader and cf boba fett

  7. derklempner - Jul 23, 2012 at 12:33 PM

    That’s no ball. That’s a space station.

  8. thefalcon123 - Jul 23, 2012 at 12:37 PM

In all fairness, how hard is it to throw a baseball while wearing shoulder/upper torso armor and gloves? And I can’t imagine it’s easy to see out of that mask…

  9. johnnyb1976 - Jul 23, 2012 at 12:38 PM

    Craig, I am your father.

  10. sabatimus - Jul 23, 2012 at 12:52 PM

That looks like one SHORT Darth Vader.

    • deathmonkey41 - Jul 23, 2012 at 1:00 PM

I was going to say the same thing. Apparently Anakin is shrinking in his old age.

      • Old Gator - Jul 23, 2012 at 2:06 PM

Maybe that was really Dark Helmet.

      • natstowngreg - Jul 23, 2012 at 4:00 PM

May The Schwartz be with you.

  11. uwsptke - Jul 23, 2012 at 1:34 PM

If you only knew the POWER of the Dark Slider.

  12. Tim OShenko - Jul 23, 2012 at 1:58 PM

Sure, the pitch was a foot off the plate, but the ump called it a strike anyhow. The Jedi mind trick is a pitcher’s best friend.

I laughed out loud while reading through the comments. Well done, fellas!

  14. southpaw2k - Jul 23, 2012 at 2:26 PM

What makes you think he even threw the pitch in the first place? Darth Vader should have just been able to float the ball through the air using the Force, a la grabbing Han Solo’s pistol away in Empire.

  15. wihalofan - Jul 23, 2012 at 2:33 PM

I find the lack of Princess Leia disturbing.

  16. onbucky96 - Jul 23, 2012 at 3:50 PM

Indeed your fastball is powerful, as the Emperor has forseen. No, must stop…NERDS! NERDS NERDS NERDSSSSS!
