37 year old pitchers in general, I'd agree with you. But the fact that he's a knuckleballer is a huge point for, not against, the argument that Dickey can be a top-shelf pitcher.

The Mets have plenty to trade in young talent, but they won’t trade them. Sandy Alderson won’t sacrifice the future for the present. The Mets future (2013 and beyond) looks far better then the last 5 years with all the pitching prospects (Wheeler, Harvey, Mejia, and Familia. Once Bay’s and Johans contract’s are gone, they will have plenty of money and an all homegrown team.

That’s funny considering Dickey posted a 2.84 ERA in 2010 and 3.20 in 2011.

Obviously no one believed he would keep up the 1st half pace, but he’s not some fluke that came out of no where this season. He’s capable of being a sub-3.00 ERA pitcher.

Wright and Dickey were largely responsible for the Mets being surprisingly decent in the first half, but those two can’t do it alone.

No one really expected this team to compete this year so a .500 season isnt terrible at all. They still have a nice team with some good young players to build around.

Young has been a pleasant surprise so far, but even assuming someone takes the risk on him, how could the Mets trade him with the rotation so thin?

I still expect Alderson to work the phones a bit and see if he can find someone who needs spare parts. I also hope against hope that he can find a way to bring in bullpen help. The collapse started with the pen, and if they are to stop the bleeding at all, it has to start there as well.

They will even out as usual, playing better the last six weeks but only after it’s clear they have no chance of being a wild card. Just like the last two seasons. It’s depressing, but consistent.

Dickey has gotten blown up his last half dozen starts. Anyone who believed his first half was anything other than a fluke doesn’t know much about 37 year old knuckleballers.
