If you’re in the market for a century-old World Series trophy, this is your lucky day.

According to the Associated Press the Red Sox’s 1912 World Series trophy will be auctioned off at the National Sports Collectors Convention in Baltimore next week and the company organizing the auction “expects the trophy will fetch more than $300,000.”

The current owner is Robert Fraser, a Red Sox fan who bought the trophy from a family friend of that 1912 team’s manager, Jake Stahl. He paid $74,000 in 2007 and the current bidding is already over $90,000.

Lenny Neslin of the Boston Globe notes that the Red Sox “have a replica of the trophy on display in Fenway Park.”

I know $300,000 is a lot of money, but why would the Red Sox not try to buy this? They may have a replica but why not get the real deal?

Plus it would be the only way the Sox would get a World Series trophy this year.

as a famous doctor once said, “It belongs in a museum.”

Dr. Richard Kimble or Dr. Robert Stonehill?

      • thefalcon123 - Jul 25, 2012 at 2:42 PM

…I guess Dr. Richard Walker and Dr. Norman Spencer are also possibilities. That dude played a lot of Doctors.

The great Dr. Henry Jones. And by “great” I mean “terrible, terrible archaeologist, but still pretty awesome”.

well, it’s pretty rare – not too many of them (especially compared to the Yankees!)

If John Henry and his band of idiots don’t buy this for the team, he really is the dumbest son of a bitch on the planet.

The Steinbrenner family should buy it and install it in the Yankees clubhouse bathroom as a urinal.

I think you meant to say cammode.

I wish I had the money to throw away. I’ll buy it and smash it in front of Fenway with a Yankees sledgehammer.

I hate the yankees, but I would never smash a single one of their trophies. You gotta respect the history of the sport.

When has anyone ever met a Yankee fan with any sense of respect???
