It was in the AJC they he told his agent that he preferred Atlanta.

Rangers can have George Kattaras…. The Brewers take the stud Shortstop Jurickson Profar, and Cody Buckel. That is the only way this gets done… Remember that The Brewers gave up for Greinke? They need to get at least that back in talent.

How would you know if Greinke wanted to be in Atlanta? Im sure that he didnt just come out and say I want to be in Atlanta in the middle of a season… Im sure he will be happy anywhere, even in Atlanta. But to say that he wants to be there is ridiculous.

Not really at all. The “smallest market teams” listed in your 11(even though the Rays and Rockies both made the WS and aren’t nor have never been in the top 11) are Detroit and St. Louis; two of the oldest teams with huge geographical followings. Even more curious is that team payroll AFTER a WS appearance usually goes up as vets that helped the squad get there art paid more than the true market would bear.

So it’s sad again, perception trumps facts.

Funny, I just checked MLB’s 2012 payroll. Just a cursory glance shows that 10 of the top 11 teams in payroll have been in the last 10 World Series, 8 them winners with two of them repeating. Amazing coincidence isn’t it?

Soooo, Zack gets selected and pampered by the small-ball Royals, leaves for a playoff run with almost as small-ball Brewers, and now will sign with one of the top ten payroll teams for 130 millionish? I’m glad they don’t have a salary cap in MLB, I’d hate to see the small-ball teams have even a fleeting chance to compete.

I think the team also gets a pick (only if he is with the team the whole season), but as you said, not the pick from the team. I think they get one after the 1st round, but is given out randomly so if six players worthy of picks are signed those team lose the 1st rounder, and then its random of the team they left they could be anywhere 1-6, after 1st round

Thats if I understood it correctly, which stuff like this isn’t to hard for me to confuse.

One way it works is that you no longer get “picks”, just a pick. The pick from the signing team is removed from the draft instead of going to the team losing the player.

Greinke’s been a stud pitcher since he came up with KC, now with the Brew Crew and where ever he goes next as well. Any team would be lucky to get him for a playoff run. I see the Rangers are a great fit for him. Not too big of a market , they got the players, money and are definitely gonna have a nice playoff run again. This kid deserves a World Series ring at some point. I wish my Phillies had room for him and he didn’t have his anxiety issues. He’s a great addition to any team.

This scares me. I’d love to see the Braves seriously go after Greinke, because I don’t think they make the playoffs with Jurjiens out there every fifth day. I also think beyond this year he’d be good since Hudson has had health issues and who knows how long Sheets will pitch like he is. They’ll have money free with jones retiring and Lowe’s contract off the books.

But they have David Ross, who runs circles around Kottaras. So if a team wants both and will give them more in return, doesn’t look good for the Braves.

It is going to stink to see him playing for someone else, but the Brewers need to do whats best for them, and geting someting in return now, that will have more valu than the picks they would get if they hold on to him for the whole year. Especially since all the changes that have been made to how that works in the last CBA.

They aren’t going to win this year, and watching the Brewers bull pen sweep themselves in Philly was just extra heart breaking. A couple of young players with good futures, will hopefully get some people excited, because the last week has just been awful for Brewer fans.

Surprisngly, the Rangers do. Mike Napoli is a free agent after this year, and I don’t get a sense that the Rangers are wanting to resign him, especially in view of the way Napoli’s batting average has fallen.
